found a store that teaches classes very regularly... 4 weeks ago

But I still haven’t had enough umph to check it out in person.

This coming weekend they’re putting together a “Homemade Craft Fair” for the holidays, and I’m CONVINCED I’ll go to that, take a look around the store and grab a class schedule. I’m getting old enough that it’s stupid to let opportunities (that I really want to do) pass me by, because of embarrassment(?), the commitment it requires(?), fear(?), the loneliness of striking out to do something completely on my own(?)....

I don’t know, whatever it is! It’s a shackle, and I have to remove it.

Best way to do that is just to do it!

only a middle school home-ec proficiency... 9 months ago

Great that they taught you that in middle school! Terrible that they don’t ever give you a refresher course….

The last year my mom was alive, I did get a small refresher course from her. She, my sister, and I made a quilt together, and that project carries great memories for me. My sister has carried on the quilting tradition, and has several of her own projects started.

I, on the other hand, don’t even have a sewing machine. I don’t even know where I’d have room for one… Of course, space is only an excuse.

I truly want to re-learn sewing. I want to pull out some of the fabric I bought, back when I was so inspired. I want to quilt and return those “roots.” I want to feel more capable of sewing my own things: pillows, placemats, etc. One day I believe I will, and so I’m declaring it out-loud, hoping that maybe I can propel myself into sewing orbit a little bit sooner. :)
