Nearly $100,000 in student loans, no job in my field, and making 1/2 of what I expected. I almost wish I hadn’t gone back to school, especially since I have to support myself and my daughter…

I accumulated so much debt to finish graduate school. Fortunately I landed a good-paying job when I finished. I’m within two years of paying off my loans.
I’ve been done paying my student loan for the last couple of months and at $460 per month I thought I’d be rich but it’s incredible how you can always find ways to spend your money…
I don’t feel the extreme need to pay off my student loans anymore… I mean I do but I can’t. I think it is more important to buy a house at this point… so all my money is going to be saved for that. Hurrah… more debt!
kmom2468 is knee deep in the hooah!
Actually, I paid off two sets. The first took 10 years because I was only nominally employed. The second set went much faster as I had advanced well in my career by then. Even though my job has nothing to do with what I went to school for, going to school and paying off the loans was so worth it.
Keep at it. Keep excellent records (I swear I paid the last $800 twice to the school, but since I didn’t have records, I couldn’t contest it). Make sure you check your credit report to see that it isn’t being reported 10 different ways (i.e. the same loan being reported under your ssn and also under a school account number). This happened to me and it was a pain to clear up – they showed the one under my ssn as closed but showed another one open – but that was actually the SAME loan. Screwed up what little credit I had.
You can do it! Cruddy jobs and all! It DOES end! Good luck!
Being in this area I should get this done soon. It will still take some time.
$300 closer to this goal! according to the statement I only have one thousand six hundred and fourty two months to go! :-)
It really seems like it will take forever, but I am trying to pay a bit more than the minimum each month to help it go away.
