Move out of Utah

I was born and raised in Tooele. I lived there until I was twelve years old. I was raised in the Mormon church, but my family was not the typical Mormon family. So I think for this, we were sort of alienated in going to church. I didn’t like how if you weren’t the perfect little Mormon, you were shunned.
I also hated the weather, how the people there were so fake and it had NO diversity, and the fact that there was nothing to do. Among many other things. In general, I hated Utah.
I was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to leave. My family moved to North Carolina in June 2007. It was the ultimate culture shock at first, but I’m glad I did it. It was refreshing to know that I wouldn’t be stuck in Utah until I died.
However, there are some things I miss about that place, and I am probably going back for a visit sometime next year. =]

I moved to Utah from northern California about 9 years ago and it was the worst decision I have ever made.

There is very little culture and diversity here and if you aren’t conservative and possibly Mormon you can have a hard time liking it.

The general population doesn’t seem to welcome Liberal views and ideology here. I’ve been in many situations where you can meet a complete stranger and they seem friendly but when they find out you’re not like them they turn on you. It’s mostly Republican here who think they are American but the only Constitutional right they care about is the right to bear arms. Forget about freedom of speech because if you are ever caught in an argument with one of these people they just tell you to shut up; they don’t even care to hear your side of the story because they are afraid to admit that they just might be wrong. In my opinion that is very un-American.

Don’t get me wrong, this place is BEAUTIFUL and has a whole lot to offer as far as the geography goes, but the people just seem to fuck it all up.

I read a post here that the people seem fake. I somewhat agree there. It is hard to find genuine people here, everyone else just seems to be putting on an act.

As far as finding your way around I have to say that to grid system works very well. I was pissed at first and had a hard time getting used to it but now all I need is the address and I can usually find it without directions.

Anyhow, my girlfriend and I are devising a plan to get the hell out of here. Can’t wait!

Utah is one of the most depressed states in the U.S. I think that’s a sign that the culture here sucks. I think Utah is beautiful as far as the land and mountains go but the people here are a completely different story.
I’m taking my mother’s advice and getting the hell out of here as soon as I can.

I am so unhappy here.. I went to Maryland for a month this summer to get the fuck away from the fake ass people here… I returned home 2 days ago and I am already depressed. Help?

HEY I don’t know why you guy want to move out of Utah, I love it there. I am from houston Texas and it doesn’t snow here!! In texas we have Hot and Humid Summers and Mild winters The avarage high temp. in the winter is about 65 dregrees and at night its in the mid 40’s..

But Goddamn it I am back!
I can’t stay the hell away and I NEED to leave
My next venture, is going to be Portland OR….
I can’t wait to get out….again

I’m very ready to leave. I met my husband here, we have a cute kid now, but I’m so sick of Utah Vally at this point that I can hardly stand it. It may take a coupel of years, as we work off student debt, etc, but this is worth it!
