since i started working at a bookstore i got better at dealing with fiction. for the first time in years i can think of five or so novels that i finished in recent memory.
on my plate right now are: the amazing adventures of cavalier and clay and infinite jest (yeah, a little light reading). i also have some easy books around to pick up in case i want to burn through something.

I’ve gotten half way through both the Odyssey and Moby Dick and then stopped. I still don’t know how they end. Does he ever get home? Does the fish eat Ahab? Darth Vader was the father!?

I finished 48 Shades of Brown this morning.
I’m not sure whether I liked it or not.

Finish Choke – Chuck Palahniuk a few days ago, it was kind of confusing- I’ll have to read it again. Now I just have two Markus Zusak books to finish and then I’ll need to start reading To Kill a Mocking Bird for school.

A lovely Meg Cabot novel. I finished it last night. Woohoo! That’s one down. I still need to finish the Book Thief and I’m half way through Choke.

I’ve been starting way too many books and either 1) losing interest half way through it. 2) finding another book that I want to read and then forget about the one I was reading or 3) having exams or assignments come up where I do not have time to read and then I just completly forget about the book and find it lying under my bed or shoved aside to a corner.

Doing Better
So since I started my current job (October 2006), i’ve been reading quite a bit. I actually read each book all the way through and I’ve read a lot of books (or at least a lot for me).

The not finishing the books I read has two different reasons:
I either like the book very much and I don’t want it to finish, or the books bores me and I just lose my interest in it.
There are also some books that I am not prepared to read yet, like Napoleon Hill – Think and grow rich. It says you have to be in the “I’m willing to do whatever it takes to make this happen” state of mind, and that doesn’t always happen.
But what the hell. I can do this!

my first college boyfriend loved annie proulx and recommended her books enthusiastically. after we broke up (spring 05) i bought a second hand copy of the shipping news. this fall (fall 07) i started it. and today, at last, i finished it.
finally! not sure i actually liked it, though.
now i’m just working on mr sammler’s planet and jonathan strange. i’ll wait to start “the waves” until i finish one of those. maybe.

nothing like a nice terry pratchett book to make you feel accomplished. it takes me about 3 days to get through them, assuming i don’t blow through them cover to cover in one sitting.
