Join the Army...no really!! 4 years ago

I joined the Army as a 46R-Broadcast Journalist. I went to a school in Maryland called the Defense Information School and it was the absolute best experience I’ve ever had. Being that I’m from Jersey I have a terrible accent and it took some work but I finally got my non-regional accent down. The school was 16 weeks long, and like I said I wouldnt trade that experience for the world. I learned Radio Production and Broadcasting, Televison Production and Newsroom stuff, and how to write for Radio and Television. If you get the chance do it, theres a school in Michigan that I heard of called the Spetz-Howard or something like that. Theres limited oppurtunities out there …but it’s so much fun why not go for it.

    hmmmm........ 4 years ago

well I got the course catalog from the local broadcasting school. Had no idea it would be so expensive. sigh.....I may be delayed in fulfilling this but certainly not deterred. Now I have to look into financing of some sort or maybe even scholarships. I was encouraged though to find out that our local radio stations are always willing to take on interns from the school. :) Good to know I wouldn’t have to worry about being out of a job after graduating.

I never thought of this until about 10 years ago. Growing up I was taught to speak with articulation and so I never thought of how I sounded until somebody appraoched me. I was working in retail as an assistant manager and had just made an announcement over the intercom. As I walked away from the front desk to the back of the store a man came running down the aisle behind me. He stopped abruptly in front of me and asked id I ws the one who had just made the announcement. When I told him I was he told me he ws a professional Voice over artist and thought I should pursue it or some other form of public speaking as a career. I was so shocked because I had never considered such a thing. So all these years later it has rolled around in my head as a dream to try my hand at.
