Live in Helsinki

Soon, very soon, this is happening. I don’t know why, but Helsinki has always felt rather distant to me, like I haven’t been able to connect with the city, even though it’s right next to Vantaa and it only takes about 30 minutes to get to Helsinki from where I live. I have always felt that the city limit between Helsinki and Vantaa has been too high a border to go over. I’m not saying or hoping for this feeling to change when I move to Helsinki, but I do hope I’ll get a chance to get to know the heart of the city better when I live there. I’m not sure if I’m making any sense, but you know. I love Helsinki, I think it is an awesome city.

...but I’m staying at my aunt’s place for a couple of weeks since they’re on holiday and can I just say that I freaking love this. I definitely need to find myself an apartment after summer and finally move away from home. I’m enjoying myself so much right now (and hence I won’t be online much during the upcoming days, I think :))

Most of my best times were spent in Finland. A part of my heart is still there.

Ever since I started thinking about moving away from home – actually long before that, too – I’ve known I want my new home town to be Helsinki. I’m so sick and tired of Vantaa, sure it’s right next to Helsinki but I. do. not. want. to live here any longer, Helsinki isn’t far away, but the distance is still too much. I was lucky to grow up here, this area is perfect for families with small children but to a young adult like me, life is in Helsinki, not here. I like city life and I love Helsinki, especially in the summer, the metamorphose the city goes through every spring is unbelievable, everything wakes up from a hibernal sleep, it’s amazing, really. Apartments are more expensive and harder to find in Helsinki, but that’s the price I’m willing to pay, there’s no other place in Finland I’d want to live (sorry :P).
