I want to know more of the Word and to find out what is God’s purpose for my life. I need something steady in my life! I have been listening to sermons and reading devotionals but would really like to spend more time in the source itself and be able to understand the Bible myself, rather than rely on people ministering. I feel the picture is incomplete.
How to read my Bible more
How I did it: Started with 2 minutes a day. Then 5. Then 10. Then 30.
Started fitting it into my life rather than figuring out how to make my life fit into it (like instead of getting up earlier I now read on the bus some days if I'm really busy. Mostly I just read at night because that's when I'm not concentrating on other things & can really get into it.)
Got a "Read The Bible In 1 Yr." Devotional Bible & it helps immensely.
Am currently reading the bible in a year by only reading 3 chapters a day. Nice to switch it up a bit.
Lessons & tips: If you need a schedule, write one. Devotional books help & save time one deciding where & what to read. Also help you dig deeper. Break it up into smaller bits at first so you don't get overwhelmed.
Switch it up!! I get bored...I have lots of different references so I'm always getting something new.
It takes 6 weeks to make a new habit & break an old habit. KEEP AT IT!! When you skip; start over again from scratch...otherwise all the skipping adds up & you think you failed; when that's just a lie. :)

Not just read-listen to to what the Author has to say.
I know that I need to do this badly!!! I just have a lot going on, and I know that’s not an excuse, but it just means I need to make time for it even if it’s just a few verses a day for now. I can do that, can’t I? I’ll start today.

I’ve been trying to “explore” different parts of the Bible on a daily basis, for the past week or so I have been working on reading a chapter from 1 Samuel each day. Today I am on 1 Samuel 17, the story of David and Goliath, which is a story I really enjoy. Its interesting how I can apply what I read to my daily life, which can be difficult with the Old Testament, at least for me.
In addition to that, yesterday I read about the 9 Fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22) and each day I am trying to work on a different fruit. Yesterday was love. Which for me, entailed being kinder and more caring towards my mom, being friendly to everyone, trying to express Christ’s love simply by smiling. Today’s fruit is joy. It will be interesting to see how I can apply that today.

If your going to read the bible I suggest reading Revelations first.
Odd I know, but as you read more of the bible you will start to get a picture of the meaning in the words.
My girlfriend and I have recently begun reading at home together. It is bringing us together spiritually. We read each day, a chapter from the old testament and one from the new. We started at the beginning of each.
I have not been doing this. I admit it.
HOWEVER…
The Stake Presidency has challenged everyone in the Tampa Stake to read The Book of Mormon in its entirety by October 29th. And I HAVE been keeping up with that. I read one chapter a day, EVERY day, and I’m already feeling the blessings that come from daily scripture reading. So I’m going to keep this goal on here, and hopefully when I finish the B.O.M., I’ll still have the resolve to read the Bible the same way. :)
bekki_boster finally back on here.
i am so far from God right now… personal details i will not include… but i am struggling and i know that this would help. i am still going to church but i feel like i am just going for the people. so they dont say anything about me,my heart aint really in it. i hear the sermons and with my head, im like “yea, thats good” but my heart is asleep. its so hard. please please please pray for me… i would love that, and i will try to look at this goal more and more and read your guys success stories. :)
thank you.

Found podcasts on Itunes for reading bible in a year. I subscribed to a couple of them and will listen in my car during my commute.
Since my last entry, I have successfully incorporated reading the Word into my morning routine. I read each morning (except Saturday). I get my Word on Sunday from church. Morning by morning, new mercies I see.
