How to get a photo published

 "I have a "Picture of the week" in the Gonubie Bugle. My mother, who lives there, said I should submit it. "
How I did it: I was visiting my parents in their little Eastern Cape Town and one evening I stepped outside to get a breath of air and saw a lovely colourful sunset. I turned around and saw the reflection of the sunset on the window of a building 2 plots down the road. Normally I would have whipped my Nokia out and taken a few shots. but I stepped back inside and brought my Canon 350D out and took pictures with several views and angles. Digital cameras are so cool now, while using slide film I would have taken 2 pictures only. Lessons & tips: Always have your camera nearby. Resources: Being a member of an Internationally recognised Camera Club is very useful. You learn from the top amatuers and some of the pros in your city |

How I did it: I guess I was on the right job at the right time and snapped a shot when no-one else thought to!Sunday Times Magazine called me and said they were interested in the pictures I shot, I figured one or two maybe small inside ( I was still an assistant!) but when i got to the offices they had mocked up the front cover! So I got my first published shot as the front cover of the Sunday Times Mag back in 2004! Read how I did it…

I was in the coffee shop last week and since I happened to know about the guy playing tonight I was asked if I would write up a short article. Well I did, and included one of the photos I’d taken of the performer earlier in the year. Both were published in the local paper. I got a byline on the article, but the photo showed “courtesy of” the coffee shop. But it was my photo. It wasn’t one of my more artistic photos, so I’m going to keep trying.

It was only in a Newspaper…but it was nice.
I sended at least 20 in different times…and early this year they chose 1, and another one a month later.
I should again send a few more

I’ve been working on my portfolio since I picked up my new SLR – I want to see one of my pieces of work in a magazine. Any subject, don’t care.
