write my own melody to a beatles lyric

yes I have written my own melody to black bird
yes that’s right I had never heard it before until now
yes I know I should be ashamed of myself, claiming to be a beatles fan and all

anyhow my version is quite different to the beatles’ one! mine is in a minor key, I wouldnt have expected it to be major considering the lyrics. I suppose the beatles’ major melody offsets the brooding mood of the lyrics. but then again, it is overall a positive song, it’s about coming out of the darkness and into the light, so it makes sense. Still I do like my own version and I’m happy I tried writing my own first before listening !

...yes, as I was saying, I was sick yesterday (still am now), so I sat at the piano, trying to make up a tune to go with “all things must pass” (which i haven’t heard before, by the way. Once I’ve heard the song, I’ll be swayed by certain prejudices and won’t be able to write something original). So yeah… I made up a tune… it’s all right but could have sounded better.

But while I was sitting there I had a sudden inflow of another melody, and quickly wrote it down. I even came up with some lyrics, which just felt like they fitted. It was a sound melody indeed, like one of those tunes that, at the moment you hear it, you feel as though you’ve heard it somewhere before. It just clicks. But that makes me wonder if I have heard it somewhere before, and am just ripping Mr or Ms someone-or-other of their original work. XD
