Good Morning, Thanksgiving!
After a rough few weeks of too many professional “crises”, plural of crisis where other people’s emergencies became my own, I found myself waking up this morning both with and to a cheery face. Telling me with a giggle that I am too cute for words for having my morning caffeine request mumble out of my mouth in Munchkin language before I had barely even opened my eyes, I have been granted my first “favorite food” wish of the day by my partner: a large Dunkin Donuts Coffee, Lite Sugar, Extra Cream, and Shot of COCONUT syrup.
Today, I am thankful that the week is over (which is an unusual feeling for me) and I am glad my family and friends have let us carve out a Thanksgiving day off for ourselves.
In my brain, Thanksgiving week is already over. I’m counting the holiday weekend activities like a “leap year”, in that I do not want them empirically tied with all the congested flurry of meetings from the past 10 days, but I don’t want to count them into the upcoming December week either, which is slated for another hotbed of professional activity. Having been pulled a variety of directions has left me feeling, well, quite honestly tugged. Yesterday, I had to draw a cut off line and simply shut down. Unplugged and not taking any more meetings until the holiday weekend is done, I’m thankful for my family’s support in letting me relax so I can recharge and recoup to get my personal November tasks tidied up and done.
As I am just awake and approaching the “feeling a little eleven o’clockish” mark, it is time to drink my coffee that was cooling off while this post was worked on and posted up. Taking the opportunity to relax and enjoy the sun this morning, I have a very difficult agenda for this afternoon:
1) pet the cat, lots
2) pet dog 1, include snuggle time and throw the toys
3) pet dog 2, much back scratching and then rope toy and a bone
4) read all silly and non-job related emails only
5) play online while I watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and the National Dog Show
6) listen to my sous chefs in the kitchen and give guidance as needed
7) get myself ready for dinner this evening
8) try not to eat too many black olives so I can keep the salt down
9) call everyone
10) take photos today to share with loved ones
So anyhow, this is my to-do list. Having scrawled copies of multi-page lists still cluttering my desks from the beginning of the week with 99% crossed off as done, reassigned to other designated parties, or ruled out from available action until a future time, I am thankful that this list is all I am promising myself to get done today. Even better, I am only attached to items one through six. I might end up in pajamas all day and sending a mass email with goofy clip art to everyone. The olives and I may both be in trouble today as well. :-)
THANKFULLY, my loved ones and personal friends for the most part understand why I just could not do more with them or for them today. I have huge responsibilities this weekend to tend to and even more in the coming weeks so today is our only option for some quiet time down. I fully intend to spend the day relaxing, lounging, laughing, and having fun while gobbling up some of my favorite comfort foods. Passing up on the time it takes to make my full and traditional thanksgiving meals and letting my boys play chef together today in the kitchen, we are working on creating an easy, colorful, and good for the soul kind of meal for tonight right here at home.
Be well and travel safe out there today everyone. If you are happy and at home, I highly recommend an old movie or a new book, your best robe, slippers, and pajamas, a warm fire or some candlelight and some great music once the sun goes down and to eat the most delightful combinations of tasty morsels you have around…
Because this goal is to enjoy the week, I have worked hard to get myself through to today very carefully. I’m going to call it a success by the end of the evening if all goes well today and our meal is fantastic this evening. Hopefully, everyone else will have a spectacularly restful and rejuvenating mid-week break today and have all your Thanksgiving wishes met for the day with the utmost of grace and ease.
43 blessings to everyone! Thanks for lounging around here with me for the 2008 Thanksgiving week! Gobble tonight guilt-free!
