I am finishing my 5th year, in chemistry. It looks like it will be at least 6 more months. I need cheering for the final stretch!
I have been enrolled at the University of Toronto since 2001, initially as a MSc flex-time international student transferring to the part-time PhD program in late 2003. I have completed all the coursework and comprehensive examinations required towards the PhD degree in the area of eHealth.
Unfortunately (of fortunately) my time lines and prospects of graduation were altered with an accident on January 28, 2006. Before the sick leave, I was in the process of submitting my thesis proposal to my former supervisor in preparation for the oral defense.
My convalescence required time away from my graduate responsibilities, time for healing, and a time for maturing. I have been active consulting and publishing on peer-reviewed journals to challenge myself before re-starting my academic life and now feel ready to return and complete my PhD. In essence, I am restarting the program almost from where I left, except I no longer have a defined thesis topic nor a supervisor.
I am curious and interested to support the 43things community.
All the best
prufock is working.
I finished up my Master of Applied Social Psychology (Co-op) in 2006, and I eventually would like to get into a doctorate program. I’m not in any rush; I want to take a few years to work, first, so I can pay off my student loans as quickly as possible. Eventually, though, I’d like to hear people call me “doctor.”
I have ideas for PhD work, but nothing really concrete yet. I’ve been more “professional” than “academic” in the past couple of years.
With a PhD, I’d actually like to do some teaching at a post-secondary level while of course doing my own research.

There’s never a time when one will be over-educated or know too much. In life there is always something to learn. Furthering your education and taking the act of learning to a higher level can never be a waste of time. Knowledge is always beneficial, whether it is labeled as negative knowledge or positive.
Be accepted into Oxford by Christmas 2009, and complete MPhil by Jun 2012 – PhD by Jun 2015!
