i made a little plan to use my money wisely and keep some money off the shelve.

For the first time in my life, I don’t have to time the bills to the paychecks. I can pay them as they come in.
I would HIGHLY recommend YNAB Pro to anyone working toward this goal. (www.ynab.com)

I mean, seriously, I’m not strapped.
I am also aware of my need to attribute a portion of this to my present living situation, but that was also the point of embarking upon this – to stop living with pennies to get me through days and days before I receive replenishment just enough to pay part of the bills I owe.
No more. I vow to myself. Work it.

this is going to be pretty hard or pretty easy depending on how stubborn im going to be
i get given about 200 bucks a week … i dont even pay my own rent.. and im always running into debt
my money goes into eating food outside, and drinking cocktails
if i quit both of those i could lose weight and save money.. but it will just have to be seen how well i am with managing my money?!
But I’ve found being dirt poor for an extended period of my life has helped. I’ve learnt to live on the smell of an oily rag. On top of this I used to spend any spare cash on getting drunk. Being sober and living like I’m poor has lead to saving money each week. Not much after eight months of temping I have nearly two grand in the bank. For me this quite well off.
When I balance my checkbook, I round every withdrawl up to the next dollar, and every deposit down to the last even amount… I’ve been doing this for almost 2 months, and when my checkbook says I have $1, my bank says I have about $150… not a great enough savings there to check this goal off, but I’m getting closer! Now I just have to stop looking at what the bank says I have, and then spending that! Maybe I should revise my goal to “learn to live within my checkbooks means” :)
So there may have been a bit of cheating with finishing this goal. I got my tax return back on the weekend and I am rich, on my own moneys! Yay!
So I have put it all into my holiday account, which is really a huge motivation to keep saving more. And now I don’t have to worry about having enough money to last until next payday.
It is such a great feeling after weeks and weeks of scrimping.
