I learned to knit by watching my mom when I was about 10. After that initial lesson I looked to library books (this was before we had the internet) for patterns and how-to’s. It wasn’t long before my sister wanted to learn, so I helped her learn. I’m right handed and she is left handed so you’ve really got to appreciate how determined she was!
After that all our friends wanted to learn, so we showed them too, including loaning knitting needles and yarn out to them. As far as I know only my sister still KNOWS how, but I could be wrong as I’ve lost contact with all of those girls now.

I taught two people at work to knit, and coached a crocheter in remembering how to knit! I continue to help as needed.

Mabel brought her knitting along to the pub last night so I could see how she’s done. I taught her to do that! Just gotta show her purl next, there’ll be no stopping her. She’s already reeling off all the other things she wants to make!

She was so excited to be knitting it was great. We went to budget wools to pick out yarn. Got chunky yarn cos I figured that would knit up pretty quickly, she picked out grey and blue to make a scarf for neil. Showed her what to do and set her off, a coupla hours, some good music and a birrova gossiping later we had about four or five inches of garter stitch scarf!

later to give her a knitting lesson. Looking forward to it but a bit nervous. Can I teach? Apparently she doesn’t have the longest attention span in the world so that could be interesting! Her mum tried to teach her once and I get the impression it mighta been a bit ardous! Gonna take her to the wool shop to pick out something yummy and inspiring. Reckon choosing something herself & making monetary investment in it will probably help keep her going with it than just grabbing bits out of me yarn stash. At any rate it will be cool to hang out together even if it’s less stitching and more bitching!

I taught myself how to knit last summer and since then I have taught 5 other people how to knit!
Knitting is a wonderful hobby (and addiction, heh) that I’m very happy to share with many, many people.
My goal is to teach a dozen people how to knit by the years end!
