    Quite interesting 1 month ago

It’s strange… at first there’s a pull … Just log on quickly and find out if X has emailed… I’ll check Facebook… I’ll buy that DVD I wanted… and it’s just weird to not go log on and do it all.

But after a few days, it’s lovely. No demands on you and your time. No distractions. No getting involved in pathetic minor things online. Not fishing through emails to look for the real emails rather than the spam.

Once the week is over though, and you’re “free” to log back in… it’s a weird freedom and you will wonder how on earth you managed without being online 24/7

i took a nine-day no-computer break a few weeks ago and can’t wait to do it again. life’s much better outside. the net’s a useful place to look up information, but debilitating if you get sucked into it while your life passes by.

Enforced after moving out to a flat where I was told I’d be able to pick up free internet, to find I couldn’t get any at all! =(

This one is difficult. I can usually manage 3 or 4 days at most, but my ideal days are lazing around online all day and partying all night. It’s how I keep in contact with everyone and keep up with everything. Also somewhere to escape to when I’m in a bad mood, lol….

This is worth doing, especially if you have off-line work to do. When I am working hard on a book or zine project I stay offline for weeeks at a time. It saves me so much time because I always spend more time online than I mean to. You can do it!

I've done this and... 4 years ago

...it’s worth it if you have something else to do. For example, go on vacation for a week – to the seaside, or the mountains, or go abroad, doesn’t matter – and don’t go anywhere near a computer. It’ll be worth it, just to see all there is to see on your vacation.

Otherwise, I’d strongly recommend against doing this. It’ll either be boring (because you’re not used to having all that time on your hands), or it will make you feel so utterly disconnected that you’ll want back online, just to get more information. Take it from an information addict – that’s not good.

I had no choice! On the ride back, we got stuck in traffic and two thoughts were on my mind: how I needed a bathroom, and how much I missed being online!
