memyselfandbethI met David Sedaris

He did a book reading for When You Are Engulfed in Flames at the Borders at Rosedale Mall in Roseville, Minnesota. My friends and I went and got our copies of the book signed. I apologized for the weather (it was cold) and David said he didn’t mind it, as it was a sunny beautiful day even with the cold. He asked my friend Sara what other book she had purchased. She showed him Cthulu, which she’d bought for her husband. He asked, “Cuh-thoo-loo? Is that how you say that?” And Sara said, “Yes, I think so.” After we left the signing table, we read our inscriptions. To me, he’d written, “To Beth – I’m so happy you’re alive – D. Sedaris” which I guess he writes in a lot of people’s books. 11 months ago

diamondfirei met david sedaris

i think it was the most exciting day of my life. he is my favorite author, and now my favorite person. i am going to try my very hardest to do this again. and again. and again and again and again and again! 3 years ago

I appreciate his work and that he spent time signing all of those damn books… I would say that people in line seem giddy and get anxious wanting to say something witty or be remembered or mentioned later, although this is rather annoying. He is a regular guy with a great personality. 5 years ago

mr. sedaris is a total riot. in all honesty i didn’t know who he was until they had him in Houston as part of the Society of Performing Arts package. i looked him up and saw that he won some sort of literary funnyman of the yr by time magazine awhile back. so i decided to go and he was funny as hell! so after the show i met him amd bought some of his books.. they freakin rule! 5 years ago

stellalunagMet him after a reading/signing in Austin, Texas

He read to a packed house in Austin, and he was brilliant! For those who have never heard his voice, once you do, you will never read his books the same way. You will always hear his voice behind the words, placing the emphasis in just the right places. When we met him, he asked us questions about US, was genuinely interested (as if he was mining material for something or other), and he drew funny little pictures and wrote clever little things in our books and on our cds instead of just signing “Love, Dave.” He was AWESOME! He is the epitome of geeky-coolness. 5 years ago

bookdivaIn Berkeley...

I saw him speak, and oddly enough, worked out next to him at the Y (alas, he didn’t crack any jokes). So funny, though (post-gym), in his dry, smart-assy kind of way…He had a real monkey fixation, and was really into wanting a monkey from this organization: http://helpinghandsmonkeys.org. Good luck! 5 years ago

mumziego to a reading...

told him that i’d read his book aloud to a friend while she planted onions. “appropriate crop” was part of his response. chatting him up about North Carolina (where these onions were planted and where he grew up) was my approach. anyway, he’s hilarious in person, just as you’d expect him to be. 6 years ago

MayimGreat guy!

I met him when he was speaking at my university. Amazingly brilliant, amazingly shy. Great person. 6 years ago

David VastaDavid is cool....

I am a David and I think he thinks that there is a connection among David’s since he made some mushroom stamp thing in the front of my book. It was really kind of neat. Since most of you know who he is then I don’t need to explain that, but I did think the whole time, what the hell am I going to say to him?

I didn’t come up with anything that would make us instant freinds, but I did just say thanks. He is a smaller man, with a huge, funny brain and you can see it in is writting along with his person that he is shy and a bit unsure of everything.

I t was great time and if you love his work then you need to go see him live, and give him a hello, I don’t think he will shake hands, but then aagin I am not sure? 6 years ago

monkeyfootwtf?

Who the hell is David Sedaris? He’s obviously some second rate scwhag actor, or the member of a boy band. I’d love to meet him, and punch him in the face. David Sedaris, i’m coming for you. 6 years ago

BirgitteNo one makes me laugh like you do...

I actually don’t know what I would say to him if I met him. Maybe it would be best if I just sat at a table close to him in a restaurant, so I could eavesdrop a little. 6 years ago

AlisaDavid Sedaris is my God

<3 He is an inspiration for aspiring freaks like myself. His publications are witty (and the overly used adverb "hilarious") and are the first pieces that have actually made me laugh aloud. 7 years ago
