Go and fetch my bachelor's degree at university

I finished my course off-campus (having secured a break in journalism halfway through my final year). So when I had eventually finished working the balance of subjects at a part-time pace, my former class mates has already been to ceremony to pick up their degree. The only motivation then as to wait for a time whem my parents would be available to sit in the audience. Ten years passed – but eventually we did it.

and now I know I passed with “mention très bien” – the best you can do.

I was about to leave for the university, happy to fetch my diploma (it’s been five years, and I still don’t know whether I passed with honors or not), when I remembered to check the opening time.
The office does not open at 1 pm, it closes at 12.15 pm.
I’m an idiot.

They wrote today to say my diploma was ready and I could come and fetch it whenever I wanted (within the ridiculous opening hours of the place, though). It only took them one week to do it. I can’t believe it. They must all be on sick leave from exhaustion now.

I went this morning. A surprisingly helpful woman told me that they had my diploma, but they couldn’t give it to me because they got my name wrong. They’ll print another one and will write when it’s ready.

They want the maiden name on it. Why can’t they print the maiden name?

Actually, it’s no big deal. You always have to come twice when you need something from the college. And they will issue the diploma. They first told me I couldn’t possibly have passed since I wasn’t in the database. “And how do you account for my taking 5th year classes if I failed 4th year?” “Oh right. Wait. Here you are. There was just a problem with your name.”

I should do that too. It may be time by now to go there. I will phone them first as soon as the phone is fixed.

The bloody university is closed for summer. Of course. Can’t they just be there when I want them to be?

But I never bothered to go back to my university to get that bloody paper. Should go now I may need it sooner or later. Hope they still have it….

I’ll use Nobodysperfect as a shameless excuse (as always) to go there, because she lives nearby the university. So I’ll visit her and hopefully dare go into this building I’ve come to hate by now.
