I have changed this goal so it makes sense for me. I had down “be an artist” as in “want to be…” being an artist puts it in the present and picks up the dropped stitch from long, long time ago – feeling somewhat more inclined to visit the empty canvas and the pissed-off-waiting pencil sketch hiding away upstairs.
I was given a canvas by one of my good friends in exchange for the art that he stole off my wall when he moved out. It was his… but I became attached. So he bought me a canvas, and it was large, I stood it up in my room where I would constantly stare at it. This large white square, taking up negative space in my room.
So finally I thought, I need to make time to paint. I need to break out all my paint, all my brushes, all my another-mans-treasure that I collect and store in the hatbox next to my bed. I need to grab the long farm grass I found rolled in the alley. I need to set up a night to just sit down and paint.
So I did.
And oddly enough, the painting started to take shape, it was starting to have meaning, it was starting to define itself.
I’m still not through with it, since I think good paintings probably need to come back to once or twice before you’re complete. But it’s now standing tall, proud, up in my room, against my wall, bearing it’s skeletal figure, warming itself up to existing.
Paint everyday. It’s therapudic.
I’m learning how to paint a cow so that when I come upon a field of them I’ll be able to paint them simply.
I have continued to paint everyday for the last couple of weeks. I have a show this weekend and plan to take my pochade box with me. So a couple more weeks and I may put this in the “done” column.
painting every day for over a week now. Last Saturday I painted in my backyard even. This feels great.

You can find them along the roads crossing humid rainforests. They go from yellow to intense orange.

It’s an old custom from when we were a Spanish Colony, the dance of the dirty devils or in spanish “Danza de los diablicos sucios”, it is one of the 9 dances celebrating the Catholic holiday of Corpus Christi. People using masks made of papier mache and red and black suits would dance stomping their feet in the ground.

A friend’s dog, Dottie, just passed away. I painted this for her.
