Annemaart Je suis comme je suis, je suis fait comme ca
I’m not sure if I’m going to count this as couch surfing yet, since there is no real; couch involved. BUt I have dabbed a food in the community thing, which was a lot of fun.
Got a message from an American girl living in the Netherlands and wanting to learn to speak Dutch. We met in a nice coffeeshop (the one that serves coffee, not the other kind) and practiced some Dutch and had a nice conversation in English. It was a lot of fun meeting a complete stranger and having a chat. It reminds me of backpacking, where you meet so many nice people all the time. I really enjoyed doing this, and wilol see where it takes me.
I’m leaving the couchsurf goal on, because I want to continue doing this. But I doubt I will actually couchsurf myself (I am always on a fast paced holiday, which doesn’t really mix with courchsurfing I think) and while I’m sharing my apartment building I don’t feel I can host. Maybe later.

But till now it hasn’t happened yet. One time my friend and I met a girl in Brussels, but after talking it through it turned out it wasn’t really practical to stay at her place, so we slept at the airport instead (we had a very early flight).
Now I’m waiting for a new opportunity.

I’ve both hosted and surfed and found it really interesting and the people really nice. Reading references is important to make sure you get a good, reliable host/guest. It also makes the experience much safer, I think. I’d like to do more with the couchsurfing community but it can be hard to find the time.

an adventure

where do I start? though I was nervous as hell, I ended up enjoying my first couchsurf a lot. I had a very generous and intriguing host. add to that the fact that it was my first time really travelling alone and it’s probably quite obvious why I feel like I learnt as much in two days as I normally do in a month or so. couchsurfing is the way to travel if you want to experience the world. I’ll definitely do this again, whether my introversion likes it or not :)

I love meeting new people and seeing and learning new things, so really what better way than this! I just need to be a little more organized and get a trip planned.

Couchsurfing is a wonderful idea. I kind of couchsurfed (not via the website) when I was in New Zealand and loved it. Some people I met at a church and some old friends from school let my former boyfriend and me stay with them and we had a great time. It’s so much more interesting to stay with locals and get to know a part of their life than to stay in hostels and just visit the tourist attractions.
I want to couchsurf the next time I go abroad to get to know more people and have a ‘genuine’ cultural experience. I’m actually going to couchsurf for the first time next weekend here in Germany.

Right now I only host surfers but I’d love to gain the courage to actually couch surf at someone else’s place.

2009 summer

I want to go to Naples or Sicily. Or both. :)
I am still a bit scared to use this system. Going alone to unknown people seems to me a bit dangerous, especially because I am woman, but I want to try.. I have already registered at the site, but no one will come to my town, since it is rather small..

I have never done it using the couchsurfing website. I have a couple of friends in Iowa and Illinois that I sometimes visit and crash with but I would like to see more places and this seem like a good way to do that while saving money and meeting interesting people. I found out about it from a fellow 43T member. I just created an account but I don’t know where I want to go yet.
