My US visa will entitle me to work but first I have to apply for employment authorisation. It’s apparently just a formality but it can take 6-12 weeks and I can’t work in the mean time. Sounds like the perfect opportunity to finish my novel to me!

Writing group
My little writing group is going really well. It’s a nice bunch of people with an interesting range of projects, and the feedback seems to be excellent.
A lot of people are away over summer so our next meeting is September 6 and it’ll be my turn to present some work. So I need to get busy over the next month and polish off a chapter or two.
It’s motivating having the group – it’s inspiring to be around other writers and it also gives me a deadline.

My Arvon course was just what I needed. I feel revived and energised and excited about my novel. The writing I am doing now, with a little more time and care, is so much better, but I don’t think I could have dived in like this without that first draft.
I need to continue the second draft and hook up with some of my fellow students to form the basis of a writing group.
Getting used to the new site design. It seems okay so far. How is everyone finding it?

I haven’t done any work on this yet but tomorrow I go to Devon for my novel writing course at the Arvon Foundation so I should have lots of creative space and guidance. I’m excited!

Arvon course

I’ve booked on an Arvon Foundation fiction course for April.
My goal is to complete the second draft of my novel by the time I go on the course.
I would also like to have some other writing projects in the pipeline.
