Growing over 1" a day!!! 19 months ago

Here’s a photo from 3/30/08 as you see it is flowering. That flower stalk is just over 30” today! The leaves are 21” long & 3” wide at the base.
I got this plant last year at Walmart for $1.99 & it was smaller than the baby plant behind it in the pic. It’s a monster and is taking over the house. It has sprouted out 6 offspring this winter and now decided to flower. I repotted it about every 4 months because it kept outgrowing it’s planter. It’s been growing in a walkout basement facing south in an unobstructed 1/2 of a patio door. The temp. has kept around 65 all winter and that is when it really took off. It also seems to enjoy Osmacote and being turned frequently.

So now for my (frequent) sunburns, it’s right outside. Fresh!

big surprise! 23 months ago

i intended to do this a year or so ago but my plant started to droop and turn brown i was sure it was done. I hadn’t seen it in about a year and suddenly there it is in all its glory with fat green shoots and atleast doubled in size. guess i’m just lucky that my father has a green thumb.

I have several right now, they grow best if they are mostly neglected. The cool thing is, once they get big they shoot off babies like crazy, you can not give them away fast enough. They also bloom in the fall, which is really neat.

Let me know if you need a plant, I will mail you one. I have dozens that have been in a bucket in the garage for months and are still alive, a little time in the mail won’t hurt them.
