How to run my own business

So happy! 
"I just started running my own business and it's the most satisfying experience!"
How I did it: I started by choosing something that I love and then found a way to bring it to others. I love shoes, wearing them, buying them, designing them. About two years ago, I started exploring custom designed shoes and started ordering my own. It was so much fun, that I started looking into how to turn it into a business. I read a ton, joined the small business development center and just started pounding the pavement. You'd be amazed how much information is out there and how many people are willing to help you. The website (www.ateliershoes.com) just launched at the beginning of the month and it's more and more fun every day!!
Lessons & tips:
- Read, read and read! I am hoping to start a blog with one new thing I learn every week.
- Ask a lot of questions.
- Brainstorm. Always be thinking about a new way to approach something that has been done.
Resources:
- Your local small business development center, run through the local Small Business Administration Chapter. I took one three hour class and after that, they will consult for free.
- NOLO books. They are great for getting a basic understanding.
- Reach out to friends with different areas of expertise.

Running my own business means I wouldnt have anyone to report to. I am my own boss. Nothing would make me happier I am not quite sure what type of business I want to run yet but I will figure it out.

I have been employed in large companies for more than 15 years. Although I learned a lot there, I feel it is enough.
Having my own business will also have its hardships but I will less of that corporate politics and games and concentrate on my business. I especially expect more mental freedom.
