Meeting Robert Smith - TWICE 2 years ago

The first time was backstage at a show in New Jersey – late 90’s. My best friend knew the people working the sound booth. When the show ended he took me near the booth so he could say hello to his friends. They slapped backstage passes on both of us. We went into a reception room and waited with radio contest winners. We waited about an hour, but the whole band came out and signed stuff for us and we’re very friendly. I think it was Simon, however, who cracked a joke about the radio contest winners, saying with a smile, “Do you even know who we are?”

The second time was following the Radio City show in New York – Wild Mood Swings tour. Somehow we got word about the bar that Robert was going to after the show. We went to the bar and Robert came in soon after with a small entourage. I remember sitting at the bar and seeing him in the men’s room with the door propped open by photographers who were taking his picture while he fixed his hair in the mirror. My friend and I (same friend from the 1st event) waited in our seats at the bar because Robert had to pass right by us to get back to his table. As he passed by, we told him how great the show was. He signed a CD insert for me which I still have to this day.

Amazing. 2 years ago

I absolutely love this band, and without their beautiful music, I wouldn’t be who I am today.
Robert is such an inspiration, he is beautiful, handsome, smart, kind, and everything else anyone could ever wish for in an idol.
I want to find out if everything they say is true for myself- I want to know if he really lives up to what I believe he is.

Want to really meet Robert Smith 2 years ago

I paid $250 for a VIP tix for Ultra Festival in Miami (3/23/07) since they anounced that it would entitle you to meet and greet “The Cure”. Big rip off, the Ultra fest. organizers lied, they only let around 15 “friends” of the organizers in. But my friend and I sneaked backstage. I could see Robert talking to these 15 people.. he was a few feet away from me. My friend and I waited for hours until he finally came out and right before he went inside the car, my friend jump to him and asked him if she could get a pix w/him. Robert gladly accepted and my friend now has a PIX W/Robert. I was on the other side of the car so when I went to approach him he was already in the car :( I just told him “Great show Robert”, he smiled, thanked me and shook my hand. He is the most down to earth person in the world. Now I really want to meet him and take the pix that I couldn’t. Hope I can do so one day. I love The Cure and Robert Smith. His music is really inspiring.

I attended their outdoor concert in Neapels, Italy summer of 2004. Then when I was flyinig back to Sweden I saw him at the airport together with some crew guys. I went to their table, presented myself shaking hands,, said thanks for a great show but that I missed songs from their Bloodflowers album. He replied that its not easy to choose setlist from so many songs so….. anyway he signed my concert stub and acted nice. surreal to meet an icon.

late 90's 3 years ago

my friend and i met him in the late 90’s in boston, and even though he was really tired after the concert, he still came over and signed stuff for us. it was cool.

Drunk and fun 3 years ago

We hung out drinking beers in the middle of the street in MPLS, Minnesota. A cop got on our backs about drinking in public and in the middle of the street so robert slammed back his beer and threw it on the road. Then the cop cited him for littering. It was funny. Defiant but not prick.
