Jane’s had a string of bad birthdays the past few years (read about them here). So today’s she’s 35 and that’s something to celebrate. I mean sure it’s not 50 like that woman who she was scheduling the interview with, but she sounds like she needs to get over it. Numbers are just numbers. It’s how you feel inside that matters. I definitely am glad she got the champagne for herself, and chose not to do the cake. I’ve not had a birthday cake and years and I don’t miss it at all. (People need to stop celebrating things with food.) Anyway, here are my wishes for Jane for the coming year:

May she have the dedication to jog at least a mile every day and visit the gym at least four times a week, because both will help her look and feel scandalously sexy. May she encounter people who are potential friends or at least people interesting enough to ask out on a date (maybe at that book club she’s going to join). And may her creative muses inspire her daily, whether it be in her morning pages, or her non-stop 30 minutes. 4 years ago

I have been away greatly this last few days, and I know we have much catching up to do. Plus I know that there must be many more birthday wishes between now and midnight.

I’ve enjoyed getting to know you, and it’s been wonderful to see you take like wildfire to the 43t community. I’m so glad you’re on here. I enjoy reading your posts, and can relate to just about everything.

It’s easy to get caught up pondering where the calendar dictates we should be at whatever stage of our lives and then somehow feel we don’t measure up, and I know this because I sometimes allow myself to be victim to that mentality. It’s easy to forget that we take charge of our own lives and make our own paths, and if we’ve missed opportunities in the past, then so what? We start today with a different approach so that tomorrow we can be something more, and the beautiful thing is that today is everyday.

I’ve enjoyed getting to know you through your prolific and articulate writing the past several months, and I can see myself in some of the things you write. I am genuinely excited to read of the wonderful opportunities that await you in the coming year. So, happy birthday “Jane”!

I feel I’m not adequate with words these days, so I borrow some lyrics from a Dar Williams song to say what I’d like to convey:
