Keep my house presentable for unexpected guests

The house is not perfect. I sweep the floors at least twice a day but with a dog that is currently shedding hair like crazy it’s pretty much a losing battle. I try to keep on top of the dishes and you shouldn’t catch anything deadly from the bathroom so I’ve come to the conclusion that while a lot of my house is still in chaos and will be for the foreseeable future until I finish renovating the place then it’s the best I can do. So if you call on me unexpectedly I’ll have to trust the fact that you came to see me and not to judge me on the dog hair or occasional dirty dish. :)

So, I had a friend over today. I cleaned most of last night and some this afternoon. Everything is almost spotless, except my office and the dining room. Plus everything could use a quick vacuum. Most of the dining room stuff belongs to my husband, so that will be moved to his space. The nice thing about the office is that I can close it off. I do want to pick up the office and have it organized, but I haven’t had time to do it exactly the way I want it. Now that the rest of the house looks great, maybe I can focus on my office this weekend. Regardless of the office, this will be marked complete once the dining room is clutter free! I love making progress, and I love a clean house!

Thanks to the husband, the kitchen is clean. Now, it’s my turn to clean the living room.

I’m having a party at the end of the month. I’m hoping that making myself clean up for the party gives me a fresh start at accomplishing this goal.

My husband and I just bought a house within the year. When we first moved in, it wasn’t too messy. We were also expecting visitors. We moved one house down from an old high school teacher. She wanted to see the house, and I told her to stop by sometime… not thinking she ever actually would. Well, she just did, and boy am I embarrassed. To say the least, I plan to spend Friday night cleaning.

This is not possible while packing to move; I’ll get back to it in my new home—when they’re done building it in three months!

keep the floors swept and the downstairs bathroom clean(ish) But NO ONE is allowed upstairs!

still need to do a better job staying on top of the dishes, but other than that we’re looking pretty good.

I wouldn’t have been a whirling dirvish yesterday when I found out my father-in-law was coming on Wednesday and staying with us, rather than coming on Thursday and staying with his aunt. Why can’t I get it through my thick skull that it’s so much easier to do a litte bit every day than a whole bunch at once. sigh. but i’m glad he’s here… he’s a hoot!

There are a few areas that I’m finding tend to clutter up but it’s always these areas that stuff gravitates towards. Need to focus on clearing these more regularly.
