How to celebrate Chanukah 5769 with all my friends!"With lots of friends - that's really the right way to do Chanukah."
How I did it: I went to three Chanukah parties, with different groupings of friends. Two of them involved singing, one of them had only pre-made latkes, but that was OK, and at one, I bonded with the older generation and even got an invitation to help lead a Yiddish singing group. Lessons & tips: Learn how to make latkes and, if you don't have room in your house, have someone else host (with the warning that they really need a good kitchen fan or else the house will reek of oil). Get a few songs together. Avoid "I Had a Little Dreidel," b/c someone like me could go postal on you. Skip the white wine, though... If you must have alcohol, have a water glass with Manischewitz or a Maccabi beer from Israel. See if you can find Adam Sandler's Hanukkah Song to get you in the mood.

A Girl in the Curl is back in school
How I did it: I didn't have a menorah, but I made do with what I had. A few years ago, I made batches and batches of soap, so I had extra bars laying around. I only had birthday cake candles, so I used those. Read how I did it…

actually, Chanukah starts Fri 12/11 PM in ‘09. I like when it’s earlier than Christmas because after shopping for others, there’s still time to shop for myself.
in this goal made me more aware of the community aspect of this holiday. Thanks, Adar, for inviting me. It also gave me the impetus to seek out and try some some new kosher foods, such as these zucchini pancakes, which are totally pareve and not bad at all.
Saturday, my sister called to say my nephew woke with a terrible cold. She had to cancel our Chanukah party. I think I was as disappointed as my niece and nephew (well, maybe not AS disappointed, but pretty close). I assured them they’d still get their gifts…we tentatively have a New Year’s date to exchange gifts.
A new tradition is born…exchange gifts on New Years. Sure is better than making resolutions…

Still, it was kinda nice being the token atheist at Adar’s house. Cat sneered at me a lot, but, really, who can blame her? Adar was nice to me, though, and even spoke to me once or twice.
Plus, those potato pancakes were jammin’!
It’s almost over, but I wanted to get in my good wishes before the end. I hope everyone has had a lovely holiday season!
Segsy is looking for a new job... yet again!
I have not been so good at keeping up. This year has been very fruitful for my son thanks to the grandparents, aunts and uncles. Oh and not so bad for me now that I sort have my itouch functioning.
Here’s to a Happy New year!
I’m removing this goal. I will not celebrate while Gaza is being bombed. This is not a holiday, it’s another war.
The darkness won this year. Will we let it rule forever?
catattack loves the Fall!
A hundred people, at least. All of them grabbing the freshly heated latkes.
I finally rescued some. The best I’ve ever had.

We called daughter S who celebrates Chanukah with her mom, and played the music and lit the candles with her.
She was surprised and happy to share in our celebration tonight.
We reflected on our gratitudes, ate latkes, sauteed apples, meatballs, creme fraiche, and drank red wine and arak. We celebrated one world, peace, light, and discovered the iPhone in all its wonders does not support sending photos other than to email accounts. Wild.
