With 42 on the back. It is too cool.

I feel blessed by all that has gone wrong since the fall. I became ill, and now I am finally getting the right treatment! I lost my job, and now I have two much better ones! I sold my beloved van, but now I have a car that runs on biodiesel! My daughter left home and went to college, but now I have a true friendship with her, admire her for how she has grown, and feel admiration from her for being who I am! I feel like a bud just beginning to bloom. Blooming is a bit painful, but entirely worth the effort.

But there is so much more to any person that 42 desires and 42 accomplishments. It was such a nice poetic balance, but destined to eventually change. I am rereading “So Long and Thanks for all the Fish”, which is perhaps the most romantic of the Hitchhikers series. I highly recommend it even if you haven’t read all of the others. Also, did I mention that I am 42 years old? It is just a number… but it wakes us up a little to notice it. Sometimes 37 is just as lucky. Sometimes 96 is just as loved. Sometimes 9 is quite adorable, and 19 just as new. Sometimes there is great security in 4888, memories in 688, heartbreak at 1360, and nostalgia with 7752883. But they are just numbers still.

Hitchhikers Guide is my bible. Well, that is a bit muchish actually. It is my favorite book(s) and I often find great bits of wisdom… well, not wisdom so much as laughs actually.
This is my 42 entry, I will turn 42 in slightly more than 42 days… the site is one more than 42, which I find intentional and/or prophetic… depending upon what I had to drink with my dinner (tonight strong unsweetened tea… and I am leaning toward intentional) There is something cool about the 42nd demention… but I forget what. And the list goes on.
It never ceased to amaze me how many UN-intentional times I run accross the number 42 in a given day. It is like a little numeric wake-up call. Reading a spreadsheet, oh, we had 42 cents difference from last month… typing an address, one abernathy lane, apartment #42… The lease on your new car is 42 months. License plate in front of me on the line to the car wash… LUE=42.
The big question I often ask myself when this 42 phenom happens is both deep and profound:
Why not?
Okay, well not so deep or profound really. Mostly just brief.
It is like when you first get you Volkswagon Bug and you see them all over town. You see blue ones, yellow ones, green ones, and scads and scads of silver or grey ones. On the way into work you are behind a black one, and during your Italian lession you see a tomato red one parked in the place where you like to park your snow white one… but you decided to take your husband’s Saturn instead… but I digress. What was the point? Ah yes, when you have it in mind-you notice it. You are no longer in a dream world about it… whatever it is. THink about how many numbers you must see in a day. Phone numbers, house numbers, license plates, the numbers on this webpage.
And yet the 42 sticks out. Because it means something.
And why shouldn’t it?
42 is great. Why of course, why wouldn’t it be? But, what exactly do we mean by this? I just typed it in, and I’m obviously not the first to do that. lol, why did you guys type it in? Obsession? Or is something more.
I only typed it in because I put 42 everywhere. On my folders, journals, hands, walls, notes, doodles… :P
What’s your story?
