dead_rose went to the circus!
this sounds awesome
Elizabeth is fighting with the CPA exam... Grrr!
It tasted slightly alchoholic, but it was pretty darn good!
It’s decent. I used leftover champagne yeast first which for whatever reason didn’t take off. The same batch fermented vigorously in some apple cider so I’m not sure what happened. Anyway, I threw it some Fleischman’s and it went to work. Overall taste is fair, a touch of off flavor. It’s drinkable. I’ll be trying this again, but this time in beer bottles.
I met a guy at my work who is really serious about beer making. He dropped me a few tips. I’m thinking about making a larger quantity this time in real beer buckets with real yeast.
Last night I got the chance to share my first brew o’ root bear with my girlfriend ( who so lovingly made some cherry turnovers to snack with ). I really enjoyed making this =) I was kept in 3 days of suspense on whether it would come out right, and in the end was quite satisfied. I think next time i’ll use more sugar and a different type of yeast, but all and all, it makes a good mug!
Ingredients and tools for making root beer are in hand! Now I must begin the process of drinking away at my 2 liter bottle of ginger ale so I can use it __ glug glug glug~~ This may take a day or three.
And then follow the instructions to the letter on Fankhauser’s page of deliciousness .
Anybody out there have any good variants or trade secrets ;P
I did it. I had my first brew a week before christmas, and so it became my Christmas brew. a new tradition. It worked out relativily well. Not exactly what I remembered, and alote of it has to do with the different ingredents, which I plan on working that out on my next brew, buty all and all I believe it was a good brew. Some suggestions for those who are going down this same road, I would get flip top bottles that are specially made for brewing in. also I would straine the yeast water as you put it into the mix.
I’ve been preparing for my first big brew, and I want to make sure I get the right kind of yeast. I’ve done it the dry ice way and it just isn’t like how grampa brewed it. theres nothing like having the dinner role after taste after each swig of sweet tonic.
