    Cycling 7 months ago

I get on my bike and set off. Then a few minutes into the ride (yes literally that short a period of time) I am struck by a problem. Not to put too fine a point on it but..my butt aches! Bike seats are not comfortable. I mean I’m not looking for a seat that reclines or one with a fridge built into the side arm rest (or am I?). The seat I have is a womens’ gel so is meant to be better than the normal ones – god help the poor suckers who don’t upgrade.

The solution is more riding apparently. So the short term solution is more pain. No pain no gain.

I’ve been listening to a great podcast called Forever Fitness which focuses on giving information and motivation to make fitness a lifelong habit rather than a short term effort. I’ve found them excellent so far and have picked up some great tips and inspiration.

The guys who do the podcasts are extremely well qualified. One trains personal trainers and the other teaches group fitness classes at the gym that has developed and sells classes such as Body Pump, Body Balance, Body Combat, Body Attack etc around the world.

If you tune in you should be warned – if you’re not used to the New Zealand accent these guys do tend to talk fast (but they do talk like typical sporty New Zealand guys!) so you might not understand everything they’re saying or the colloquialisms. It’s a great accent though!!

80% of success is showing up 10 months ago

Something I’m going to focus on this year is moving more. Back in high school I used to be an athlete. I was on a number of sports teams. Hell, I was even the captain of some of them, and one in particular used to win a lot too.

But those days were over a long time ago and while I keep trying to get my athletic groove back, my efforts are sporadic and I tend to give up really easily when life gets in the way.

But this year is going to be different and I am committed to making exercise a priority.

Here’s an article I found about rediscovering your inner athlete.
