bad GPA 1 month ago

I have a really poor gpa (2.8) resulting from having really bad freshmen and sophmore years, but am currently pulling a 3.8. Based off the PLAN and practice tests, I’m looking at about a 32 for the ACT. I hold down a civil engineering internship yearround, right for the school paper, MUN, Pre-Med club, etc. I am currently self studying AP Bio, Psych, and Chemistry and am going to take a couple classes at a community college next semester. What do I need to do to get into Reed besides getting my grades up, essay, and interview?

Also, is it worth trying to transfer if I don’t get in, which is a large possibility I’m not deluding myself about.

i’d like to go to reed- ive visited- stellar campus. my grades and “papers” are relatively mediocre though. never been challenged in school, never been intrested. now its coming back to haunt me especially with a school like this. i feel though as if i shouldnt have a problem conveying my intelligence or individuality (if they look for that) in an interview. im curious though, could anyone give me a heads up as to what is asked and/or talked about?

Getting into Reed 14 months ago

I have decided that I want to go to Reed and I will do ANYTHING to get in, and i mean anything. I just don’t know what I have to do…
I’m studyin hard and taking ap classes, I’ve got some bomb extra curriculars, but i definantly don’t feel like I’ll stand out to.

I realize I come off a bit uptight, but I swear I’m not hahaha.

I’m just a little uneasy, ‘cause I’m a smart kid who’s just caught some bad brakes.
i.e. the cancer and other things affecting my GPA.
I know i’s not strictly a numbers game, but, all the same.

I know in my heart the college is right for me.
clicheclichecliche.
hahahahahahaha.

:D

Honestly, I think its fate.

But that doesn’t mean I’m not freaking out. Okay maybe its not fate. It just comforts me to think that it is.

Hopeful 2 years ago

I’m a junior who has learned recently of Reed College, and I am convinced it is the place for me. I wont’ have the chance to visit since I live in Michigan and it’s all the way in Oregon! The admission requirements are certainly daunting, and due to many family issues such as my mom having breast cancer and divorce, my GPA ranges from 3.4 to 3.7 and I’m worried about my chances of getting in. I’ve got good extra cirriculars, and I’m going to take the ACT soon. If anyone who has gotten in or is applying this year has any advice, it would be appreciated. Thank you. Wish me luck!

The End Is Near, i.e. EXAM WEEK 2 years ago

I have to get into Reed and I’ve been studying so hard except for last night when I watched Skulls II. It was okay but I should have been studying for Physics. I honestly think I failed the exam today and I needed to get a C to not get a D on my report card. Tomorrow’s English (so f-ing easy) and Friday’s French and Latin. It’ll go well because my horoscope said so. And the horoscope is always right.

accepted 2 years ago

i just got accepted to reed college through early decision. i’m so excited! although, i haven’t actually been to reed as a student, i have gone for an interview. i would have to strongly recommend getting an interview, especially if you’re less-than-stellar on paper. for instance, my class rank and gpa were a bit lower than what reed wanted…or at least what i felt comfortable. i got in, however, through my amazing interview and my essay and, perhaps to a lesser extent, my SAT scores (1410). what they want and can’t get through your stats; try to make up for that through an amazing and honest essay and good SAT scores, if possible.
