How I did it: It was hard to begin with because I didn't have a landline, and neither did she. Finally I decided to send her a positive postcard a week to cheer her up and be part of her days in a way. I've been doing this for the past 4 months and she's definitely built up her postcard collection!
It also helped when she she got an internet connection and we have been keeping in touch through messenger and skype which is a lot cheaper given our time zones.

So in the absence of a phoneline, which is still the case three months after having applied for one, I finally decided to take action into my own hands and booked her a ticket over. This week we’re trying to make up for a few months’ worth of no talking. It was hard putting a full stop to our words, at first, but we settled for a few semicolons every now and then.
I got her machine. It’s weird—I never used to notice when my sister and I hadn’t called each other in a few weeks. We never used to be phone-talkers and it was rare we even cared to talk to each other in person.
She’s changed a lot since she’s been with Kevin—and since she’s been pregnant. For the better. I’m glad for that. I always knew she could be a better person… she just never used to bother.
