Plant a small garden

This will be the first year our growing family of 7 has ever had interst in planting a garden. Since we’re trying to be more earth friendly, we’re going to grow our own veggies. I remember watching my father do it years ago, but we’ve sorta had our differences and want to do it on our own, with the assistance of others of course who won’t criticize my every move. I’d just like to know maybe what grows the best in your gardens and what might be a little harder to maintain than others. Happy gardening!! We’re super excited so your imput would be great. We’re also making a flower garden which shouldn’t be too hard but advice on it is much anticipated also.

And I have a gardener

I bought a plant for my garden. It’s the first time that I have ever taken this sort of initiative.

I am going to plant some other flowers in the garden as soon as I get some time and do some weeding. Ideally, I’d like the grass to be cut more often, but it is impossibile since I do not have a lawn mower, and I do not have anything else that might help.

I hardly know where I’ll begin as I do not know the fine arts of making things grow, though I remember that my dad always kept a nice garden, and there are some English bits I’d like to bring to Thailand. I mean, I know I can’t bring plants through, but I’d like to make my home something more of my own.

There are certainly herbs that I’d like to grow as they’d be beneficial in general.

We picked our first bell pepper today. They are just beautiful. Really beautiful. I am SO proud of our little garden plot.

I just found this website online about heirloom gardening and I am hooked. I think this is the year I get serious about gardening… well, really next year, but this is the year I start planning and figuring out things.

I do have 3 tomato plants, four green peppers, 4 cucumbers, 12 pumpkins, 6 watermellons, 10 radish, and a bed of zinnias… that is more then I have ever planted. We have harvested 7 cherry tomatoes and they were sweet, but I have learned that with a family my size I need at least 20 tomato plants!

I am getting Miragreen peas, sugarsnap peas, purple pod peas, sweet basil, lemon basil, lime basil, blessed thistle, marshmallow, and soapwort sent by a lovely woman in Georgia… I can’t wait to put them out!

Mmmmm small farm gardening is really wonderful. I can’t wait until I have seeds to share.

We have PUMPKINS… well we have big pumpkin leaves. I planted 12 pumpkins down the hill where the water from our laundry pipes out. So, they will be watered effortlessly… and they are growing fast and furiously. Granted, I won’t be EATING these pumpkins, but I will hopefully have great pumpkins for carving at halloween. How exciting!

I started my small vegtable/flower garden. This is my first garden I have ever planted. My dad and neice came over a couple of weekends ago and helped me clean out all the weeds and plowed the garden. So now it is just up to me to care for my new garden. I’ll hopfully have a new picture of my garden soon. Keep ya updated! :-)

I spent last summer dreaming and planted one tomato plant and some mint. I think we got 2 tomatoes before it frosted. Oh well. I read several garden planning books last summer and fall. I’m excited to get started, going to start small. Right now I’m reading a seed catalog I got in the mail and trying to prune down everything I want to fit into my budget.

Once I get my new house, I want to redesign the garden
