maitriiHello Folks - First time here - Scared but Raring to go

My best friend just convinced me to sign up for 13.1 miles! Just thinking of it makes me anxious. But I know I am a go-getter.. And I love the feeling of accomplishment.

The best I can do is run 2 miles on a treadmill in about 30 minutes. DO you think I can do a half marathon in April, if I set up spirits up and follow a training schedule? 2 years ago

Sassy2007Ran half marathon on treadmill, and completed total of 100 miles on treadmill odometer

I ran the distance of a half marathon on the treadmill this past weekend. It took me 2hrs 25 mins.

I also managed to complete a total of 100 miles on the treadmill since purchasing it nearly 19 months ago. The bulk of the 100 miles was completed this month so I am feeling very excited about doing the half marathon next year! 2 years ago

Sassy2007Ran 10 km yesterday and have been doing some treadmill training

I’ve started using my treadmill more since I decided to start training for a 1/2 marathon. Yesterday, I went for a 10 km run (outside), and it was the first time running in snow, and over ice so I went a bit slower than usual.

My 10 km race times have been 1hr12min, and yesterday it took me 1hr26 min with ice, snow, and stopping to check on my baby in the jogging stroller. I think that it was an okay time.

After doing the run, I wondered if I should even bother having a goal time in mind for completing the 1/2 marathon as there could be several variables that I can’t control on race day such as snow, and ice.

In my mind, I’m going to strive to complete it in the 2hr30 min to 2hr15min range, but most importantly just be able to complete the race.

Next weekend, I will attempt to run 11 km which is the longest that I have ever tried to run.

I will try to train to at least 15 km or 16 km of running since I’ve never done this race distance before, and it should still give me enough of a base to complete the race.

I’m scared, but excited to attempt to run in a 1/2 marathon. I think that I can do it, and I will do it! :-) 2 years ago

Sassy2007I am going to run in a 1/2 marathon in 2010!

I have decided that I will be running in a 1/2 marathon in 2010, and will start my training this week! Whoo hoo! 2 years ago

Sassy2007When to do a 1/2 marathon in 2010?

I’m thinking about running in a 1/2 marathon, but haven’t decided when I will do it. 2 years ago

Sassy2007Averaging about 20-30 km a week

I’m averaging about 20-30 km a week. I guess that I need to start increasing the distance by about 10% per week. I want to make sure that I have a good base, before attempting a half-marathon.

I really want to do a half next Spring. I think that I will probably start to get serious about doing the training for a half-marathon about mid-October. The weather will be cooler so it should be more comfortable for running, and I will have had some time to gradually increase my distance running, and hopefully lose some more weight to make me run better. 2 years ago

Sassy2007Run in a half-marathon- Entering a new goal in my list of things to do!

This is my first entry for the goal of running a half-marathon. I only started running this year (Jan. 2009) so I still have a lot of training to do before I can run in a half-marathon.

My overall goal is to just be able to complete the distance. I think that I will try to run for 10 minutes, and walk for 1 minute throughout the race so that I can get to the finish line before the road opens to motorists.

I think that if I put this goal here, then I will start to take it seriously, and actually start training. Plus, I want to start doing something now while the weather is nice, and get into a routine so that when the weather gets cold I’ll be in a routine that it will become habit to just get out there, and run!

So far, I’m averaging about 20 km a week in running/walking. I’m going to try to increase about 10% per week.

The longest distance that I have run (raced in) is 10 km so that is roughly half the distance of a half-marathon.

I think that I can do it! I want to do it! I will do it! :-) 2 years ago
