I want to get one soon so that i can build up a good credit rating. I’m sensible with money and despite being a student i’m not in debt (yet) so i no i’m not gonna go mad with it.
This time I tried to apply for a card that was recommended for people without any credit or bad credit. And once again I was denied because I don’t have any credit. Argh.
I will try again later. Just not now.

only worth doing if you do it right. don’t get into a huge amount of debt! then its def not worth it to get a credit card. i went a little crazy and got too many… don’t do that either. one or two is more than enough… and store cards are evil and pointless… =\

I have been trying for 10 years to get a real credit card again – I don’t recommend getting one in college or it could end in tears – and last year I managed to get approved for a couple of store cards and a gas card. But just this year I FINALLY got accepted for a real credit card with a modest limit and now I don’t have to rely on my mom or my boyfriend to secure hotel rooms or book flights for me anymore. It is nice to feel this free again, but I have to constantly remind myself not to treat it like a debit card and get in over my head again. Use it wisely!

You give the bank $200-$10,000 as security. This establishes your line of credit tThen you charge against this money. When you pay your bill, they send a good report to credit bureaus. At the end of a year if you keep up on your payments. They offer you a standard credit card.

they’re useful to have, and if you always pay back more than what they ask for they up your max in a relatively short period of time. it did improve my credit, and i suppose it was essential in building one, too. you have!!!! to be responsible though. otherwise they can be really dangerous!
So far I’ve applied for 2 cards, got neither. I wanted to try for Rewards cards first, because there’s not much point in having one without, but I guess I have to start with something more basic.
This is what I get for waiting until now to build up credit. I should’ve probably gotten a card back when I was a student, but everyone told me I didn’t need one yet.
Well, fooy on them!
