    Harris 2 years ago

Although everyone I asked and everything I read said that the best way to do this route was South to North, it was only on the last day that we experienced the elusive tail wind. We tore into Stornoway in record time.

Wind and midgies 2 years ago

Great experience, all the naysayers droning on about the wind and midgies were mostly wrong. We bought island hopper tickets in Oban and our itinerary was

    Oban – Mull
    Mull – Iona – Mull
    Mull – Oban – Barra
    Barra – South Uist
    South Uist – North Uist
    Noth Uist – Harris
    Harris – Lewis
    Lewis – Ullapool

every island was special in its own way, if I could do it again though I might miss out Mull in favour of Skye.

The whole journey took us about 12 days in total, all fairly easy going the only real hill climb was bewteen Harris and Lewis but beware a strong southerly wind can leave you feeling like you’ve cycled uphill all day.

    Not complete 2 years ago

    but totally reinforced.

I just completed the “mountain bike on Harris” goal, and Harris is one of the Outer Hebrides. Such a cool place. I’ve managed to leave my camera in my friend’s car, so no photo to upload, but just a great place, and makes me want to cycle Barra, the Uists, Berneray, the lot. The location, the biking, the beers, the scenery – fantastic.
