are officially overflowing, again. And I’ve taken to reading/finishing short (to me) books in one sitting. Certified bibliophile?

Ok, so they were relatively short, but still I like this finishing books thing!
And I feel as if I have to get my speed reading back up to speed, in preparation for other goals. It’s all connected, see.

The Man in The High Castle – Book group thing.
The Godfather – Friend thing
House of Leaves – Me thing
I’ve read a strange mix of books so far this year and went crazy with the to-reads over here.

What are you reading?

I read this when it first came out, and remember finding it tedious, but what I call ‘worth something’.
Two weeks ago, I moved house. I was surrounded by boxes upon boxes, with no internet access and a smoke-detector with a low battery that caused it to shriek every five seconds, which meant I didn’t feel like sleeping on my first night here.
I felt like I needed a fat book to get me through and help escape the chaos. (After dinner with friends that included margaritas.) Thing was, my kitchen stuff was on top of my books. I managed to pull out The Corrections and started reading it (again)...
I’m liking it more the second time around, now reading it along with two book group books and something fluffy.
Now, it will forever be, to me, the book I read when there was nothing else around except for something that sounded like sneaker-scuffs on a gym floor. Not unlike an episode of the Twilight zone…
(Battery was changed the next afternoon. Sanity restored. The boxes, I’m still working on.)

I want to read them all, for enjoyment/knowledge, and to say that I’ve done it.
Anyone want to join me? :)

I go out every morning. I usually come back with something new to read or lines from my notebook to type up. Sometimes I think words and books come before food on my list of must-haves.
I got 4 books for Christmas, (ok, one is an over sized coffee-table book, but 4 books.) I went to the library today, kind of on a whim. Checked out 7 books. There are 198 titles (so far) on my to-read list on goodreads, and those are just the one ones I find or can think of. I’m quite click-happy. I’ve started writing review blurbs again. I’ve asked my friends to borrow books of theirs that I want to read, again. My own bookshelves are double-rowed.
I’m giving up the book group I’m in for something else that starts in January, somehow not related to reading or even writing, but I’m sure I’ll find some more bookish spirits there.
I want to read the NYT 100 Notable Books of 2008, and some other lists out there.
I have a friend who calls my reading a hobby. I think that cheapens it to the point where I’m almost offended, but then I’m a writer.
Which brings me nicely to my own stuff, which is as always, bubbling away. I need to turn it up, starting today. I can’t wait for tomorrow.
I could ramble on, but I need to write. Or perhaps read a book.
