and loved it.
I missed it so much, that it was really great to be back in the classroom, learning about new students and stepping up to two grades teaching English 1 & 2 with honors thrown in. The students have been great and don’t ignore me-I have a different teaching style than the previous teacher and they seem to be understanding it or at least are ok with it.
The previous teacher that I’d replaced was out sick, but apparently really wasn’t. She just didn’t want the position she had, and wanted to work with seniors. The senior position opened up and she’s coming back to teach them next week. It boggles my mind that she wouldn’t think of the students in this, that she only cared about her preference for the job.
Enough of that, but have met the others who are teaching English on the hall, everyone’s been nice and mostly friendly. I haven’t had any visitors yet, but I’ll try to remain calm if they stop by.
I’m definitely a ton happier to be back teaching!

really nervous though, as I’d been teaching middle school and now this is high school. Not to mention these students sound really great, and they’re honors. I don’t want to let them down, but at the same time I feel like can I do this?!? I’m really enthused to be teaching again, don’t get me wrong. I’m trying to plan my lessons for next week and really don’t know what they’ve covered since they had a sub since…really the beginning of the year. Found out that I’ll have some of the administrators/faculty’s kids, and that’ll be a first for me. I don’t think I’m having a breakdown or anything bad like that, just incredibly anxious and nervous about the 150+ students I’ll be meeting on Tuesday… That’s currently keeping me up and barely sleeping… ay-yi-yiii
I’m not going to mark this goal done until after Tuesday..or the end of the week, so hopefully I’ll calm down and all will be wonderful.

Anyhow, on Friday the assistant principal called and let me know the position was posted online that day-I applied immediately. I also emailed her thanking her for letting me know. I thought I’d have to go through another interview but her secretary called me on Sunday to let me know my fingerprinting appt was on Tuesday at 11:30am. In this county they only have you do that when you are being hired. Then she said I’d have the processing of 5 days but all should go well & I’d start next week!
I’m so beyond thrilled, I’m ecstatic, indredulous and just sooooooooooo thankful that its finally coming around.
I won’t cross this off until I’ve started working there though, and its from 7 to 2, so its a bit earlier, so going to try to get back into the swing of that this week. Currently planning on working still at the job I’m at for a couple hours each night to get my big project done.

teaching in my county. I don’t know if they’ll print it but hoping they will.
Perhaps on a positive note, I did get my application up in Palm Beach county. I posted for 6 of the English positions there that were posted in December. I didn’t go back any further although there were more openings. It would be a long drive for me, but I’d be teaching again, and the salary down there is higher than ours up here. It’d even out to the same with gas money taken out. I think I posted for 4 middle school openings and 3 high school openings. Didn’t check to see where they were but realized one of the high/middle was in Jupiter which is half as far. I’m hopeful something might happen but if not, guess this is all for a reason. I just keep reminding myself of that.

I got an email back from the assistant principal today, and the email told me “Sit tight I am trying for you.”
YES!
It’s nice to hear it and hoping something will come of it. If not, still a nice moment on the bumpy road back to teaching.

The assistant principal at one of the high schools I interviewed for a job at, wrote me an email on Wednesday, saying she hoped to have good news by Monday for me. Today she called while I was at my temp job, my dad told her I was at work, and I guess she hung up pretty quick. Upon finding this out, I immediately wrote her an email and called and left a voicemail at her school voicemail. I’m really hoping for a job, it would be nice to be back in the groove with all the good stuff. My temp job is not so great, I sit all the time(opposite of my last temp job) scanning the past 50 years worth of documents into the computer for a sort of community help place. Hoping to have some good news next week about this…and I applied for a position that just posted on the school board job page that opened today at one of the schools I dropped off my packet of cover letter, resume, recommendation from past principal and teaching certificate.
hoping hoping hoping that something really good like teaching again soon will happen

I miss teaching.
I never realized how much until I started doing my temp jobs, and not being in the classroom. Thought I’d be teaching by now, but so far none of my job interviews have lead way to teaching job… I miss the kids, the interaction, the stimulation of knowledge…and yes the steady paycheck was nice too.
Ever want to grow a new appreciation for something? Lose it for awhile and have it look like you might not get to do it for awhile!
I currently have my application in at my county school board and the one in Indian River County(very nice). I check regularly on the school websites including Martin, Okeechobee and Palm Beach counties for job openings. The rub here is that substitute teaching pool/orientations have been filled for past 3 months so even if I pay my fees to get in, I can’t work anytime soon! Heard good news from a teaching friend of mine, that the county is thinking of hiring my temp agency for substitutes. That would be awesome.
Still hoping to get a job teaching in a permanent teaching position…just sometimes that hope seems quite futile for now.

I trained as a teacher, taught for a time, went on to grad school, came back to the West Coast and stumbled (as so many of us do) into something else. While I enjoyed my time in Games and Hi Tech, I really miss teaching and desperately want to get back to doing that again!
I am currently not teaching because History/Drama doesn’t seem to be a hiring goal in the part of the country where I live. Moving isn’t really an option (we really like it here…), so trying to find ways to get a teaching job is becoming an obsession. Subbing isn’t an option, because I need a reliable income.
Any suggestions are welcomed!
