All combed up  — 2 months ago

I finally sat and did my entire hair in cork-screws. I’ve not done this in a while and now I’ve been getting all these compliments this week. Is it just because it’s a change or does it really look really good.. I’ve got no idea. But it’s accomplishing the purpose I wanted, which was to spend less time on my hair (especially on mornings) and to not be constantly brushing and combing and adding products so it can grow on it’s own. So now I think I’m gonna re-do this for the next couple weeks and probably even do braids which will last about a month without any interference besides washing and conditioning :)

Good Hair  — 2 months ago

I want to cut my hair. I would like to healthily maintain a reverse bob. I need to religiously go to the hairdresser every two weeks for a silk wrap. I need to wrap my hair every night before I go to bed. I hope this will enable it to become healthier. Not an easy feat when youre mixed and constantly using a flat iron.

Now In Bunches!  — 2 months ago

I look so much like a black Mickey Mouse…this entry has a picture of my hair in all it’s cutesy glory.

Shower, Shampoo, and Comb  — 4 months ago

I busted through it early yesterday morning while in the shower. The longer it gets, the easier it is to deal with it seems. I guess because it’s not so quick to curl and tangle together when it’s longer.

By this time next year, I’m hoping for double this length. That will be the longest it’s been since the ‘Pre-Perm’ years.

Black Billy Idol  — 4 months ago

I relented and let my mother run a hot comb through my hair. She’s oddly obsessed with this practice despite her hair falling out at her near constant use of the bloody thing.

Once she was done, I looked in the mirror and…I’m apparently the black incarnation of Billy Idol circa early ‘80s. Now if only I had the money…and that cool thing he can do with his lip.

Incidentally, my earlier post regarding it’s length wasn’t far off. It’s actually a little over twice the length now. I cut it on 8 April 2007 and one year later, it has grown faster and longer than ever before.

Natural  — 4 months ago

I’m getting better at this and exploring new ways to style my hair. I actually really like my hair and I’ve decided I’m gonna get it natural for about another year. I was going to straighten it last year for my birthday but deferred to New Years. But now I’ve gone til ‘09. We’ll see how I feel about it then. But right now I’m loving the fact that I can curl my hair with my fingers lol. But on a real, I think I need to take care of it naturally first and get it to a great condition and then I’ll be able to manage it chemically. The chemicals really wasn’t a go the first time. Anyway going to get a stream and cut (I hate to but it’s needed) next week. I don’t think this goal will be hard to do. I actually I’m already on my way.

Compliments! Keep 'Em Coming!  — 5 months ago

While in my anti-stress group yesterday, I got a cool compliment for wearing my hair out and natural.

I feel awesome for the recognition. :)

People on the bus ride on the way down were less than positive, not that I really cared, so to have someone be nice about it felt good.

Cornrows Part Deux  — 6 months ago

I’ve done it. They’re large, uneven in length, and have been in about a week, but they’re there and I did them all by myself.

I actually have to refresh them either today or tomorrow. I’ve been washing my hair as per the books intructions but I’ve also been dying to take them out and go crazy in washing my hair the way I like to.

Never let a wannabe beautician practice on your hair!

Cornrows  — 6 months ago

I found the old site I initially learned cornrowing from via the Internet Archive and I’ve been studying the instructions on there to re-learn what I’d forgotten.

/sigh/
