I took part in a karaoke contest again 2 weeks ago, not only that I didn’t win, I sang badly and sounded really awful. I don’t wish to disgrace myself again so I have decided to give up on this until one day I can really have good control of my voice. :)

Ok this years contest is coming soon, now i’m thinking of whether I want to take part again because I didn’t win anything last year, and am thinking of what song to sing.
I took part a karaoke contest early this year, but unfortunately didn’t get to enter top 3. I got 4th place.
Next round really hope I can bring something back.
so i haven’t won any contests, but i’ve gone out basically every week for the last couple months, and i really feel i’ve improved. i’ve had people i’ve never met compliment me on my voice, and i’ve tried things i’ve never tried before. i’m proud.
It’s one thing to sing karaoke, it’s a whole different thing to compete. I sing my butt off when it’s just for fun, but notheing beats the thrill of actually winning. I’ve only done it once but it was AWESOME!
I didn’t start singing until I was 41.
I’ve won several contests in the past 3 years and also placed 2nd and 3rd in many of them.
I do a great Janis Joplin!
I now have my own Blues Band!
I won a karaoke contest at JapanFest 2001 with Inoue Yosui’s “Yume no Naka e.” I think the judges were impressed that I could sing in Japanese (I’m not Japanese) and that I chose an older song. I also talked up the crowd during the intro; I was pretending to be an idol singer, hahahaha. The key is to have confidence, but don’t take things too seriously…the next year, I didn’t even make preliminaries!
Anyway, my prize was a $50 gift certificate for a very yummy Japanese restaurant not far from my house. Totally worth doing!
