About how frustrating it’s been not being able to find the time to play, I’ve played twice, which is not enough but better than last week at any rate. Now that I’m getting a slightly later train to swimming I am hopeful about creating some morning-playing-time without having to get up any earlier than I was before.

is definitely a long-term one, two or three years at least I would think. But I do want to learn to play well and have a catalogue of enjoyable works memorised and ready to whip out at the right opportunity, and I hope that will motivate me to practise regularly. I like to play and it’s been such a joy finally having a piano of my own and being able to play whenever I like, but it would be nice to have an end-goal to keep me engaged, something I can feel like I am making progress with. I have wanted to do this ever since I read a biography of Condoleezza Rice years ago and found that not only is she Secretary of State but also a bit of a whizz on the piano – how cool to just have that as an aside??!

It also occurred to me that when I have learnt some pieces (and this will be easier once I have a car) I could go home and have piano lessons with my dad every now and again, seeing as he almost was a concert pianist. It’d be something nice we could do together, even if it’s just once every month or so.
