We’re halfway through the year and I have made 0 progress on this goal. I will take it more seriously :(
How I did it: I made a monthly goal of what books I wanted to have read and then broke this into a weekly goal. I tried to read at least an hour on Sundays and a minimum of 15 minutes on other days. I actually finished this in less than a year this way.

Just started doing this with hubby. Can’t wait to see what the Lord has in store for 2009!
Yup, I’m still going. It’s been great. It allows me to have continuity, and develops a new habit of reading daily. With God’s grace I will do it the rest of my life.
I’m about done with Matthew and Genesis. Great stuff!
I have kept up with the reading. Today is the 16th. It helps to keep up knowing that if I fall behind, it will be harder to catch up again. This is a worthwhile goal. It will be one I want to continue every year, I think!
I downloaded a Bible reading plan. I started behind, but have a long plane flight so I can catch up. That’s the plan anyway.
http://www.biblereadthrough.com is a great site for reading through the Bible. It will track your progress automatically and you can even design your own readthrough.
and must say that it’s a good idea. You get a much more holistic view of the Bible if you view it all at once, helps you to see the forest rather than just the trees if you know what I mean. My favourite was the Prophets…wow what an insight in to God’s thoughts. very good.
Let’s just say I don’t do real good with any set in stone reading plans and i’m already way off track on the one we were originally doing.
So, I printed out a half page list of all the chapters in the entire Bible. This is the way I did it last time, basically I just read 3-4 chapters a day and checked them off.
That’s what I’ll be doing from here on out, 3 chapters a day and then I put it down. I can read more later in the day but I need to just build the habit and not try to do too much at any one time.
So, I received a copy of The Message today in the mail. I promptly sat down and read 19 chapters of Genesis, a good start to catching up.
Now, I understand that The Message is a Paraphrase of the original language. At the same time I think it captures some of the rough street language of what the original reader’s would have heard in it. You can be confident I have my commentaries and Greek translation nearby, but I’m really enjoying it right now.
So for all you non-Bible reader’s out there let me suggest two things. One, the Bible unarguably is one of the most influential books of western culture. If you consider yourself an educate person you should read the Bible if you haven’t. Two, if you’d like a translation that keeps your interest in it’s modern language, pick up The Message by Eugene Peterson.
I’ve recently ordered The Message translation by Eugene Peterson. Many have said that this is only a paraphrase rather then a translation, but regardless it tells the same stories. I’ll read it with commentary and other translations near by, so there should be no worry of blasphemy or heretical thought.
I just need something new and fresh to me.
