AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! I WON!!!!!!!!!!!!! 9 months ago

    Dear leighanna,

We’ve just selected your kindness idea as the winner for this month’s HelpOthers.org contest. Congratulations!

What this means is that we’ll send you $100 to support implementation of the delightful idea that you shared with us:

    My Girls….

I am teaching a self-esteem class for at risk girls aged 8-12. I currently scour clothing pantries for the girls, because it’s hard to work on their self-esteem when they have on their dad’s shoes, or clothes with stains on them. I would use the money to purchase a new clothing item, or two for each of the girls.

To make this happen, we can either send you a check or PayPal the money to your email address. Please let us know what you’d prefer and send us the appropriate information. (Note: for those who are not based in the United States, PayPal is the easiest option so you’ll have to create an account, unless you have one already.) If you have any questions, do drop me a note and I’d be more than happy to answer it.

With this unconditional gift, we hope that you are able to create ripples of goodness in your community. And we hope to hear some stories of your experience, and if possible, perhaps some photos and videos too!

Thanks for your partnership in spreading a little bit of kindness in the world, and we look forward to hearing from you soon.

    Parenthood 10 months ago

The father of my DD is not with me anymore, and he has been a lousy provider, and moved out of the country….Anayway he shows up yesterday, doen not give me a dime, and gets to be the good parent for one shopping trip…aaaggghhhh…Anyway, I swallow my pride, my anger, and my resentment and sit him dowwn on my living room, make some cofffe for him and talk amicably about DD. Then he takes her out and returns her home safe…. That she get to know him is for me the right thing to do…I believe my deposit was bigger…

I found this story on www.helpothers.org 10 months ago

One evening I was parked in front of the mall wiping off my car. I had just come from the car wash and was waiting for my wife to get out of work. Coming my way from across the parking lot was, what society would consider, a bum. From the looks of him, he had no car, no home, no clean clothes, and no money. There are times when you feel generous but there are other times that you just don’t want to be bothered. This was one of the “don’t want to be bothered” times.

“I hope he doesn’t ask me for money,” I thought. He didn’t. He came and sat on the curb in front of the bus stop and he didn’t look like he could have enough money to even ride the bus. After a few minutes he spoke. “That’s a very nice car,” he said. He was ragged but had an air of dignity around him.

I said, “Thanks,” and continued wiping off my car.

He sat there quietly as I worked. The expected plea for money never came. As the silence between us widened something inside me said, “Ask him if he needs any help.” I was sure that he would say yes, but I held true to the inner voice.

“Do you need any help?” I asked. He answered in three simple but profound words that I shall never forget. We often look for wisdom in great men and women. We expect it from those of higher learning and accomplishments. I expected nothing but an outstretched grimy hand. He spoke three words that shook me.

    “Don’t we all?” he said.

I needed help. Maybe not for bus fare or a place to sleep, but I needed help. I reached in my wallet and gave him not only enough for bus fare but enough to get a warm meal and shelter for the day. Those three little words still ring true. No matter how much you have, no matter how much you have accomplished, you need help too. No matter how little you have, no matter how loaded you are with problems, even without money or a place to sleep, you can give help. Even if it’s just a compliment, you can give that.

You never know when you may see someone that appears to have it all. They are waiting on you to give them what they don’t have. A different perspective on life, a glimpse at something beautiful, a respite from daily chaos, that only you through a torn world can see. —Cal

    Another day 10 months ago

I got up early, showed up on time for may job, then got out just in time for my other job, came back and was ever nice to eveyone. Being a health care worker(general phisician) is fullfilling, and even more so, on days like this, clockwork…

I will never mark this goal off of my list because I feel it forever ongoing. Last night I went to the hospital (I have bronchitis), and as I was leaving there was an older woman on her cell phone, and I overheard her say that her boyfriend wouldn’t come and get her until he was done playing his video game. Who wants to hang out at the hospital? I walked over and gave her five dollars, and told her to call a cab. She said, “I can’t take that from you.” Ummm, yes you can. She then started to give me reasons as to why she couldn’t. Once again, yes you can. Look lady, I’m trying to make a deposit in my Karma account, and you are telling me the bank is closed. JK. I do find this happens alot, though. If I am in line at the grocery store, and someone behind me has less items, I always tell them to go ahead of me, and what do they say? “No, I coudn’t, are you sure?” No, I’m just trying to trick you. Yes i’m sure. Let me be nice damn it.
