Does anyone knows how to start? A good video, or a good book perhaps. I’ve heard that the film Jazz, by Ken Burns, is to focused on the early years…

The more I learn about jazz the more I appreciate the talent of the singers I was first attracted to. I see Ella in a whole new light now.
Iv’e always been interesed in jazz but it’s really hard to know how to start to get into it. There are so many different sorts and fusions and it’s not as easily available to somone who doesn’t know what they’re doing as other music.
There are so many jazz styles that you just have to experiment to find one you like. Personally, I recommend early jazz, especially jazz where the piano is the lead instrument. I got into jazz recently after watching a program about Derek Paravicini, an autistic savant who is commonly recognised as being a musical genius. (You can read more about him and hear musical samples here: www.derekparavicini.net).
The major jazz artists I’m listening to at the moment are Oscar Peterson and Art Tatum. I really like the swing-style jazz and I’d recomment you check it out.
JP Creighton rising to shine on a rainy cloudy May Sunday;waiting for coffee, here.
I listened all night as I drove the route, as I had listened the night before. Last night I recall, I decided I’d look for music from the Oscar Peterson Trio.
The night before, I seized on Lambert, Hendricks, and ? There’s a great song called “Unhand that wine!”
This last night, from 2 am till dawn, I listened to him as I learned the paperroutye. I’d listen to some of the instruction tape for the route, then switch it off and listen to some jazz.
