Need this for my home insurance  — 1 month ago

My home insurance is due in September and I want to look at how much I pay (I have another goal to sort out my finances) and ensure I have the right level of insurance. In particular there are is a lot of music stuff around (Vinyl, CDs and DVDs etc). Just want it all recording. As I go through I will also get rid of the stuff that I no longer need (and another goal to get rid of the clutter).

I plan to do this room by room (in conjunction with yet another goal to fix up my house) so first room is the main bedroom. Do this by the end of the week.

it has begun  — 8 months ago

I actually started doing this a couple weeks ago and it wasn’t too bad. I got all the big stuff down. Now I just need to get the little stuff. This is a good time to do it though because I can get rid of a lot of stuff before I move into my new house.

this should be easy  — 9 months ago

I think that I have been scared of actually writing down everything (very big list). If I at least take pictures/video of everything that will be better than nothing. I guess I should break this into rooms and attack it that way.

Everyone Need a Home Inventory  — 1 year ago

    Worth doing!

Inventory My House performs this in the Houston area. It is necessary because the only way you retain the value you have invested in your home furnishings, electronics, antiques, art, collectibles, clothing, sports equipment, etc. is to be able to provide proof of ownership should you experience a loss. When you hand an insurance adjustor a CD containing a video tour of your home with high-resolution still photos of specific items and a detailed written inventory, you have all the proof you need. The information preserved on the CD will not degrade over time. Keep it in a safe place, where it is readily available should you need it because of fire, flood, wind damage or buglary.

Listing our stuff  — 1 year ago

I will start making a list with pictures and serial numbers of all the computers, monitors, printers, scanners, televisions, stereo equipment, mp3 players, cell phones, cameras, vcrs and dvd players and recorders. That should keep me busy for awhile. Then I will continue with the personal valuables.

I have inventoried my DVDs. Next is CDs and then electronic equipment. Not sure about the hubby’s collection of CD games for his computer.

Done (Kind of)  — 3 years ago

    Worth doing!

I got the actual list of big stuff done completely and now just need to do up the small lists with DVDs, CDs, software, tools, etc and type it up and put it on CD and take it to my grandmothers. I also want to get some pictures of the big stuff and I will add those to the CD as well. I am going to mark it as done though because the rest won’t take long and since I am this far into it, it’s not like I will leave it alone. All in all it didn’t take that long and if we have a fire or anything it will make it a lot easier to remember exactly what we had. I would recommend doing this for everyone.

Hopefully I Won't Need It But...  — 3 years ago

    Worth doing!

I want to have a home inventory made up for insurance purposes because it would be really hard to think of everything we have if we lost it all. I want to list furniture, appliances, electronics, a rough number for clothes and dishes and stuff, and a list of movies and CDs and stuff. I will probably think of more later but that is basically what I want. Just a rough guide of our belongings incase we need it in the future. Then after I get a list together I will add serial numbers and values and all that but for now I just want a basic list. I will start it tonight and work on it more tomorrow.
