build a milk carton boat

i want to build a boat for science class and it has to support 50 pennies for 10 seconds without sinking

My dad and I went to the Aquentenial near our house a few days ago, and watched a milk carton boat race. We have watched them a few times before, and thought they looked like a lot of fun. The both of us decided we wanted to try and enter for the next years race, but we don’t really know where to start on building the actual boat. We need some help on figuring out how to hold the milk cartons together, as there waxy material is not the best surface for glue or paint. If anyone can help us out with a few tips on milk carton boat racing, we would love it! Thanks!

At Seattle Sea Fair next year I want to enter the Mild Carton Derby

I built the small one, as linked to below. It makes a great bath toy for the twins.

Decided I wasn’t interested in the bigger model.

It was an interesting project, but in the end I feel my time could have been better spent (raced it on Greenlake in Seattle).
