I want to print out on index cards the recipes I’ve found online and organize it into a binder or something like a rolodex. That way I won’t have to think too much about what to eat for lunch/dinner. I’ll just close my eyes, flip through it, and the first recipe my finger lands on, that’s what I’m making.
How to make a recipe book
How I did it: I was fed up of searching for half an hour to find a recipe I felt like making so I figured I needed to organise all my recipes into a book/folder.
I found an old blue ringbinder folder in my study cupboard that had a loada plastic wallets in it just empty - perfect!
I set about printing my recipes off - typing up hand written ones and grabbing ones I'd posted on athomechef (livejournal community).
When all my recipes were printed out I put them in a logical order - separate starter, main and pudding sections with a contents list.
Hey presto one currently up to date, logical and clean recipe folder!
Lessons & tips:
- Use a ring-binder folder so you can shuffle recipes into order.
- Use plastic wallets to avoid recipes getting marked when cooking.
- Do a contents page which you can add to so you can find recipes easily.

Hannah Must use free time wisely...
Found an old blue school folder that was empty other than plastic wallets. Perfect :)
Printed out all of my recipes so far and stuck them in said plastic wallets in folder, arranged to separate starters, mains and puddings.
W00p! Just gotta keep it up when I write new recipes now. I think I can safely tick this one off now.

When I make up a recipe I write it down roughly on a scrap of paper or add it to “athomechef” group on LiveJournal. Needless to say the bits of paper have a knack for going missing or falling down the back of the kitchen drawer etc. so I wanna make a book/folder of all my recipes so they’re neat and to hand when I need them :)
I’m gonna start by printing off the recipes I put on LJ and any others that are on my computer :) logs into LJ
Marie Goodart wondering where the "try this again" goals end up
I found a book, had to look for older ones, like my mothers. Old fashioned ones that used mixing vinegar and milk and other such things! Of course, this book is more for baking than anything, but I’ve started to expand with the help of my roommates into cooking other types of things.
My favorite book right now is fat-free and vegetarian books, even though I do add meat to them :D
I guess I need to get some recipe cards. A straight out binder of printed and handwritten recipes went NO WHERE.
I put 2 more recipes in the binder and I organized a pile of printed out ones to sort through to see which I’d like to include.
I got a recipe card binder for Christmas and my sister and friend got me started by putting some of my recipes in the binder already. Now I just gotta keep writing them down.

Marie Goodart asks,
“How should I go about this? A binder full of printed out recipes, or should I take the time to hand write them, or how?”
