I would like to buy land and build a home that is self sufficient. Grow my own fruits and vegetables. Raise chickens for fresh eggs. A peaceful place for family and friends to visit and rest. A place my dog could run free. An environment where humans and nature blend and harmonize.

The money isn’t there right now for me to do this independently, so either I have to persuade some partners or work on building a down payment. Realisticly because I am working less than full time right now (for pay I mean, trust me I am a busy hardworking lady) dealing with payments would be tough. I think it is going to take at least a year for me to earn what I am worth. I need to come up with a concrete goal. I have so many dreams, land in the country, land abroad, a place in the city, a family beach getaway. I co own a rental out of state, my former home. Now is not the time to sell but I should start the conversation with my husband about what we plan to do with it. Maybe I’ll ask him if he could envision us owning a second home (not for income, for us). He wanted to trade up earlier this year and I am glad that we didn’t with the economy and home values plummeting like they have. I think I’ll check out what the houses that we were looking at are going for now, just out of curiousity. To be honest I was not on board with the move. He was looking at McMansions by his job. I hate the isolation and lack of character in those places. It doesn’t meet my definition of community. I can also start a file of information and possibilities to gain clarity. Maybe I’ll cut way down on personal expenses and start a property account. I also need to transfer a dormant account.
I’ve been so busy with it that I haven’t had time to update here. 3 weeks ago I closed on 4.6 acres! The house is old and decrepit, as is the barn, but it’s mine! We’ve been working hard on it and I’m thrilled!
Courtney is over half done with Lent
I went to my first viewing a couple weeks ago and just looooooved the house. Found it online and couldn’t resist looking, even though it was a bit out of my target range. Still adored it when I saw it, but decided to keep a level head and not rush into anything. In the meantime, I’ve found out about a big tax credit to buy a house in Roanoke City, and the $7500 federal one that passed and you no longer have to pay back. Sweeeeeeeet.
I’m now looking at a more budget-friendly home that is absolutely darling and just dropped by $10,000 today! Getting started on this whole thing is very fun.
We are going to look at a couple of more places this weekend. Wish us luck.
We found a good place. Put an offer in and someone beat us to it. It is a short sale and only one offer at a time can go to the bank. So I have to wait and see what the bank says.
Dad was here this weekend and we drove all around looking at property. Have a couple of others in mind.
We’ve looked at several places and even made offers on one that were turned down. It’s been a month or more as we got burned out. Now we’re back on the hunt. Have 4 places we are going to try to look at this weekend.
I’m 30 years old and have horses. I spend a fortune on rent every month and need to put this into real estate. You’d think this is the time to shop, but I have been unsuccessful to date.
of course this is a long term goal, but it is my goal to purchase property in NOLA and fix her up and create a home for me and for Jimmy and our blended family to visit when they like; but have it be our respite; our sanctuary. it is my hope to find a job, move, find a cheap place to live so i have a place to lay my head while i work on the broke down palace…
My new best friend, my home loan. Repayment period: 20 years. Sigh
Other than that, I’m happy to finally have my own place.
