I saw a TSA agent help an elderly lady through the magnotometer at the airport by reaching his hand through so she had something to hold onto. When I went through after her I commented to him that it was really nice thing to do. He thanked me with a smile. Sometimes we need to catch people doing things right rather than wrong. I don’t know how those folks do their job. I couldn’t.

Going through security in Buffalo (where the plane crashed last night) I chatted with the TSA agent about how difficult it must be—told him to take care of himself.

So I wasn’t able to be that positive source of energy to the degree that I wanted to this week. But on the other hand, I wasn’t a negative source of energy either. Progress not perfection.

Two days ago I was in the airport and decided to consciously be kind to the waiter by looking at him, smiling at him and using his name, I could tell it made it difference in his day just by the look on his face. That made me feel good about me. And when I approached the TSA guy and asked how he was, he told me how nice I looked in my new purple jacket (he didn’t know it was new—that made us both feel good. It is so easy to get caught up in the rush of getting through the day that I forget to be kind. I don’t ever intend to be unkind, I just miss the little things.

That probably doesn’t sound quite how I mean it. By focusing on one person I don’t know and treat that person with respect and love I can practice this goal. If I can learn their name and use it, use eye contact and a smile when addressing them, be patient when trying to acheive something, engage them positively even when they are annoying me I can bring something postive to my life and theirs.
