MisfitDreamer is a leaf in the wind

I miss it 10 months ago

I’ve done a good amount of volunteering and I love being able to positively influence others. Recently, I’ve been too busy with school and work to help out anywhere, but I should have room in my schedule for next semester.
Right now some volunteer options I’m considering are:
Helping out at PAWS (Philadelphia Animal Welfare Soceity)
Foal-sitting at the new Bolton Center
Assisting at a spay clinic

Tammy is blooming where I'm planted!

Organic Garden 13 months ago

One of the things I’ve decided to do to “Bloom where I am planted” is to utilize my gardening knowledge. I plan to start a community organic garden program here in the “small” Tx town that I have recently moved to.

Wish me luck!

shirt i saw 2 years ago

it had a crossing guard letting kids pass by and it said-

volunteering: it doesn’t pay

i talked to a friend about this shirt. we laughed. it’s sad, but true, and as a result funny at this point in life.

i’m just way too poor to not be making quite a bit of money. is that to say that i’m hoarding all my time to myself? no, i informally tutor people or help people out…just not for ‘looking good on the resume’ type material. i don’t care.

if i didn’t have to work at least 40 hours a week it might be different. someday it will.

i have just become a hospice volunteer.

I love it! 3 years ago

I’m volunteering for my favorite group, ChemoAngels, again. It’s such a great program and it’s something I enjoy doing. Just a few minutes a day to send out some cards or gifts really makes a difference in someone else’s life.

Did my part... 3 years ago

I put in my application to be “reactivated” as a volunteer. Now I’m just waiting on my assignment!

Can't wait to start again! 3 years ago

I volunteered regularly for my favorite organization until last December, when pregnancy complications forced me to stop. Now that the baby’s here I’m ready to start again.

i used to volunteer all the time 3 years ago

all throughout college i was a pro at this, now i don’t have as much opportunity, i have less time, and i am not as motivated as i used to be. i tutor some people for money- that’s just not the same.

i want to find something really exciting that i’m passionate about. i don’t know what yet.

I like to help others and be helped. I had ever been doing this as a camp leader in summer or play with kids or help their homeworks on holidays in church. But had to moved here for uni, then joined the community a bit far from here(here’s some communities though I liked the lovely atmosphere there) for people from another countries to help their language skills with chatting, visiting somewhere or doing something new or like that for a while but was getting less time because of my study then quitted. . . Now I feel I want to do this again, sharing time and having fun time with them.

Done. 3 years ago

I’m now volunteering for South LA LAMP, in their ESL classes. It’s tough because I don’t speak very much Spanish and I’m working with women who speak almost no English, but hopefully that will be motivation for both of us to learn each others’ languages!

It feels really good to be out in the local community interacting with people outside of my university. I’m marking this goal as done.
