I’ve got the hang of the drawing tablet and have completed another picture. This is the most fun painting that I’ve ever had.

I got the drawing tablet that I wanted. I couldn’t wait for the 25th; I took it out of the box today. It’ll take some getting used to, the whole eye/hand coordination aspect of it.
I’ve started many pieces and have finished only one. I need a drawing tablet to do the things that I have in mind. Hopefully, I’ll get one for Christmas.
I’ve been exchanging emails with an old art school buddy who is now a pro illustrator. He’s already given me a clue about what’s new in technology – tons of stuff. It’s a bit overwhelming. One thing he turned my on to is the “speed painting” videos on YouTube where you can watch a time-lapse video of an illustrator making a digital painting off the top of his head. They’re fun to watch and quite impressive. They also give me an idea of how other illustrators work.
I was an illustration major at art school and I’ve never worked in the field. After all these years, I think I’ve hit on a unique style that I do well. I’m ready for a career change anyway.
Now I need to assemble a portfolio. I’ve got two pieces done already.
This will take some new hardware too, maybe even a class. When I went to school, we still put paint on board. Now it’s all computers. I’ll stick with the old-school method for now.
Prostitution of visual communication, cutting your imagination in pieces and selling it, lovely job, try it! ;)
