beauty standards.  — 1 week ago

i think that a HUGE problem that affects the entire world, is the beauty standards.
as technology increases, computers can generate more ‘perfect’ ppl. for ads; eyes are enlarged, lips blown up, breasts enhanced, and etc.
it is now IMPOSSIBLE for the real human person to look the way ppl do in magazines. yet we strive for it nonetheless.

a big way this is done is make-up.
ppl think that it is just a mere accessory, but it is so much more. the make-up industry is mooching money off of people’s insecurities. it is pathetic and extremely sad.

when you put on make-up, you lie to yourself and the world. because when you take it off at the end of the day and look at your washed out face….. you didn’t look like that when you went to work. to school. shopping. you really aren’t pretty, like you let everyone think with your mask.

Might be rubbing off on my roomie  — 10 months ago

As far as the recycling goes. I’ve noticed a few other recyclables that are making their way to the recyling bin. Of course it probably helps that I buy the bags and take the recycling out so she has to make next to no effort. And I have to give her props too—she’s excellent at finding ways to reuse items.

Now to start rubbing off on people at work. I shudder when I think of the amount of styrofoam cups they go through there. At least I managed to let them allow me to take all the company’s outdated cell phones back to the provider (which will reuse and recycle the parts) instead of “throwing them away” as one coworker suggested.

Application Approved  — 10 months ago

My first official volunteering day at the museum is a week from this Saturday.

So much to do...  — 11 months ago

So my roomie forwarded this to me today in reference to one of the topics we touched on during our convo last night. On one hand it’s good to see that there are other people who are bothered by the injustices in the world. At the same time it’s disheartening to realize how much still needs to be changed and not knowing where to begin.

Less talk, more action  — 11 months ago

I finally submitted an application to the local nature museum to volunteer on Saturdays twice a month as an education volunteer. I’m fairly excited about it—the position combines working with youth and sharing a message of nature/conservation in a fun way. Plus, it would get me out of the house fairly early two Saturdays a month.

vegetarian 30 day commitment  — 1 year ago

    Worth doing!

i’ve made the 30 day challenge/commitment to go without meat starting yesterday.

that’s the change i want to see in the world. it costs more money to feed the animals we eat than to eat the feed itself.

    =P to meat eaters.

lazy bums..  — 1 year ago

    Worth doing!

...I have a feeling that when i finish this round of schooling I will become a lazy bum. In order to combat that, I will be the change I wish to see in the world.
...The change I wish to see is healthy active lifestyles. Therefore, I will try to find a way to help others become more healthy and active…(while helping myself)

    =)

healthy family...  — 1 year ago

    Worth doing!

... I think that one of the biggest changes I’d like to see is becoming more healthy (the world and such)
If I had a family, I’d want it to be healthy. There was an article in Lifetime Fitness’ magazine (Experience Life) titled, “Up to the Challenge” by Laine Bergeson. The article told of a well-known busy family and how they stay healthy and active.
I am so amazed at the proactiveness of this mom and what she does! She is a good role model!
